it's been a hot minute yall. getting ready for this 2 week vacay to ghana. how is everyone's portfolio holding up? we all took a few lumps and bruises at the beginning of the year i believe but hopefully yall is bouncing back.

Saw one of my boys this past Friday for the first time in over a year. He was in Ghana a few months back visiting fam and told me I should go out there.

We were also choppin it up over this:

My trading account is still down about 2 Gs from my high late last year, but Im sitting on some growth plays that I refuse to sell. Ima patient man so its all good... my long term ish has withstood the test of time so far: Basically 10-20% allocation dedicated to 8 diff holdings. So that diversification, and OIL (XOM) kept my numbers up so far this year. And my broad market funds have been rollin lately. If /when tech bounces back should be another lil run. So Im just DCA and letting things grow slowly there..

Safe travels man

You already know.

Another energy play that could make some noise in the medium term (next year or so) is uranium and nuclear. I know Buffett and Gates are partnering on a facility in Wyoming and folks are saying that nuclear in general is going to be big as far as filing the gap between transitioning from fossil fuels to Green Energy. Go figure.

The Role Of Nuclear Power In A Clean Energy System

Summary
  • Nuclear power has historically been the most critical source of zero-carbon emission electricity globally.
  • Policies in the developed world appear likely to result in the marginalization of nuclear power.
  • A fade in nuclear power will likely produce an increase in the importance of natural gas in power markets.
  • & Increase in the cost of electricity to consumers which may impact economic growth.
  • & Increase in the cost and timeliness of addressing climate change;

Gotta love it! $FSR only a few of dollars away from doubling up my initial investment. $AMD is finally coming out of its coma. $SOXX needs to catch up with $VOO for my YTD return. Tech looking good.
Went from 25k down in March to up now

Any investment-savvy dudes (or women) know what's the better investment: high yield dividend stocks or high yield dividend ETF's?
If you're specifically looking for dividend income, either one can work. But there are a few considerations, like Hav said..

1 - Whether or not you have specific companies of high conviction (or use) that pay the dividend. The Walmarts, Exxons, the Verizons.

PROS: You will likely have better asset appreciation/ gains on top of the divvy..
CONS: The divvy can get lowered or removed all together, so you have to watch and be willing to move your money to another dividend payer if that time comes.

2 - Or if you want to set and forget and invest in an EFT like VYM or VIG

PROS: Passive and diversified. Won't have to watch it like a hawk to make sure it's still paying you a divvy.
CONS: Asset appreciation may be slower (but steadier?) and it will come with at least a small expense ratio

My fault I misspoke in my last post and accidentally mentioned VUG as one of the dividend focused ETFs. I MEANT to say VYM & VIG...

You may also want to consider SCHD. I don't hold it, but it gets talked about alot for its focus on the 50 least volatile/ high dividend paying companies.

I hoped yall jumped in hertz, its up to like $26 share from $8

Funny, I was watching it a bit for the past week, but not keeping up with the news. Just read that they officially came up outta bankruptcy (today?) and the symbol changed.

Last time I checked the pps it was still under the bankruptcy symbol and around $8. It must've ran today.

I am still seeing $8, what is the ticker symbol?

Took profit on my $AMD call spread and closed out the call side of my $ACB strangle for small loss. I think it dips back below the 200 day SMA.
