Purchase the insurance from them then pay $200-$300 to get a replacement device.

Replacements don't cost that much. At least I haven't heard of them costing that much, especially if you have insurance. Most I paid was like $50, and that was for a recently released phone.

My girl was quoted $200 for an iPhone 6 Plus 64Gb at the Sprint store for a replacement device through her insurance. She took it to Apple and they fixed it for $129.
