Aquaman Movie Villain Revealed

The King of Atlantis is going to have his hands full in his first solo DC Films movie. Aquaman, played by Jason Momoa, will square off against his arch-nemesis Black Manta in the upcoming Warner Bros. tentpole, currently slated for a 2018 release.

Black Manta was created in the pages of DC Comics’ Aquaman in 1967. The character has gone through several revamps in terms of origin and continuity. The most recent version, introduced as part of DC’s “New 52,” presents Black Manta as an assasin who holds a grudge for the death of his father against Aquaman. Aquaman did, in fact, accidentally murder Black Manta’s father while seeking retribution for a murder that Manta committed.


Momoa had a brief cameo as Aquaman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice earlier this year. He’ll next appear in Justice League and can be seen in the footage from the film released at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2016.

For Aquaman, Momoa will be joined by Amber Heard as Arthur Curry’s Atlantean love, Mera. The film is being written by Will Beal (Gangster Squad) from a treatment by DC Comics Chief Creative Officer and President of DC Entertainment Geoff Johns. Johns himself wrote the first 25 issues of the New 52 Aquaman series. Aquaman will be directed by James Wan (Furious 7, The Conjuring).

idk man DC has made some horrible casting, directing and writing choices. Suicide Squad is a pretty bad movie even though they're printing money right now. I still think the bubble has burst on comic character movies. One or two may be big money makers but gone are the days when you could trot out any character and expect a big turnout simply because people wanted to see them on the big screen. Oh well I sure don't have plans to see this one, I never cared about any underwater shit, Marvel or DC.

Manta shouldn't be the first villain - he should be in the movie as the manipulator of the first villain and a power player from the shadows with a competitive sometimes allied relationship with Aquaman... Also have Aquaboy around with a complicated father son relationship

even worse DC hasn't shown any skill at story telling and this movie needs a lot of it - and Jason hasn't proven himself as a lead actor- shit they had Aquaman obviously holding his breath underwater in BvS

I am a little surprised that they didn't go with Prince Orm as the villain for the first film. Maybe they thought that two royal brothers battling over the throne would be to similar in tone to the first Thor.

It really should be OceanMaster, but as Orm, before he becomes OceanMaster, when he was just Aquaman's half brother... and have him be the shunned half breed among the various royal families and the military command of Atlantis as primary and secondary conflicts -IMO there also should be an external threat from a rival city on a war path.
After 3 or 4 movies borrow villains from WonderWoman or shit do white martians- beat Marvel to the punch on the skrull wars

He is long established and you can even have Ryan do a quick cameo or EASILY explain why he isn't present and GIVE a brother the movie.

And it would DIRECTLY compete with black Panther..
