Update, April 21: Call it a 4/20 miracle: Babyface and Teddy Riley were finally able to finish what they started weeks ago and hold a full Instagram Live battle last night. First COVID-19 interrupted, then technical difficulties, leading fans to wonder “How Come, How Long” until they’d be able to witness a face-off between an R&B hit-maker and the creator of New Jack Swing. During the April 20 battle, the songwriters pulled out their biggest hits, and Babyface even sealed the deal with an acoustic performance of his own song “When Can I See You.” How’s that for worth the wait?

April 19: Last night’s Instagram Live battle between Babyface and Teddy Riley was maybe doomed to fail from the start. The battle, organized by Swizz Beatz, had already been postponed from April 12 due to Babyface’s COVID-19 diagnosis. When the two began their rescheduled battle last night, they were almost immediately hit with technical issues. An audience of more than 400,000 then watched in awe and confusion as two of R&B’s most legendary figures struggled to fix basic audio issues.
Riley, having misunderstood the assignment, had set up a kind of at-home concert stage that caused audio playback and echoing — Swizz Beatz later commented that Riley was doing too much and that “less is more” when it comes to Instagram battles. Though the two tried to troubleshoot and play through the sound issues, the event was ultimately called off. The livestream lasted for about an hour before Babyface announced that the battle would be postponed once more, saying, “I think that it’s only right that we postpone this thing until another time when there aren’t any technical difficulties, and everybody can hear the music the way it needs to be heard.”

And Twitter had jokes, of course. Notably, Toni Braxton livetweeted for some of the livestream, and was not impressed. Other famous faces popped up in the comments of Instagram Live, including Tyrese and Adele, who commented, “Come on it’s 2020 we ain’t meant to get what we want.” Well put, Adele.

True, but I dont think it would be the same amount of people. Regardless it would be alot. They should have partnered with someone like BET. Took a lil time and had it be the superbowl of song battles with the platform they point people to be a place they collect emails.

No of course not. People charge for things they didnt create everyday king, i dont understand that point. I do agree that those involved dont have to charge to get paid. Which is why I dont fully agree with charging people. I think just doing it on your own platform is the way to go.

Fair enough. If we disagree on that we can all agree this was a great moment last night and was great to see two Titans go at it.

Who?? Does he/she want tge next battle.
The producer that did most of SWV (including "Right Here").
Teddy remixed the original. (I like Teddy's version more tho. lol)
I think he was just saying what Babyface eventually ended up saying when Teddy played his Janet Jackson remix: "Did you write that? Or is it a remix?"

absolutley. The disagreement is strictly on the platform. And I might have no clue what it takes to do this but my gut is wishing it was on a black one. either way big up king

Someone brought it to my attention that Teddy misrepresented on Foxy Brown Get Me Home too.
It was produced by Trackmasters. :smh:

Teddy had to play his early rap hit to stay in the room with Babyface and even that couldn't help him.... Babyface won like I said he would.

D'Angelo vs Bilal.... Bilal would win but it would be a good battle.

Babyface got bangers but Teddy showed far more diversity. It just depends who you are. Guy produced some of the best r&b music I’ve heard. Face got Don’t be Cruel. Teddy produced shit from the Show to In the Closet....crazy...

At first I thought that too about teddy that his stuff was just way more hip than babyfaces stuff but outside of the rap because Babyface doesn't do that but even after teddy played his holy- Grail "The show" Babyface had something to answer everything Teddy played that was just as good or better than Teddy's jams.

I was thinking maybe Teddy could of battled the lead singer or one of em from Toni tone Tony or something.

Not to mention that Teddy got up and just left for damn near 20 minutes, Teddy better not bring his ass back to the internet cause it's as if him and the internet got a long standing beef ;his performance fucked up, backup dancer fucked up, connection fucked up, Teddy's "I'll be right back" is just as fucked up.

Teddy could of just put on an concert in his studio like he did before this battle shit and it would of been all good; on the keyboard, talk box, dancing, singing...all in the video, fuck his internet provider and come to deathrow.

Initially I feel like he did. But then when Teddy went into the 90's and brought Mike Jack with him that's when it started favoring him to me personally.
