Best Buy plans to stop selling physical media such as 4K/Blu-Rays & DVDs possibly as soon as end of Q1 2024

Not me breh...the less stuff I have to find space for the better...Bad Idea. I love my DVD collection although it's all old school music. It's something about having a physical DVD. I got this classic stashed away in my closet...
What's the point of keeping all that old stuff around?
Besides you can rip that collection and store all that on a flash drive if you JUST have to keep it.

I still need to find a VCR, I was going through my old boxes and I have all of these [non-porn..lol] VHS tapes from the 90s and early 2000s...lol. I probably gotta go to the Goodwill or find one on Amazon.
I own two Blu Rays, one that came with a Justice League War graphic novel I got at Ollie's and Shin Gojira/Godzilla I got for $5 in the bargain bin at Walmart.
Never bought into it...still have a bunch of DVDs and can't remember the last time I played one in the player.

Yeah hit up goodwill. I got a nice Panasonic with a remote for like $5. I also got a VHS camcorder for $10. I remember those things cost $1,000 in the 80's

Long over due
I rip my blu-ray discs full quality and stream them. Somebody will still sell the physical media for a while.4k bluray quality is far superior than streaming 4k too
I still buy 4k blu ray movies so this is disappointing.
Just left Best Buy.... Been there 4/5 times this year, every time I leave I say damn cant wait for them to close this, it hurts my heart to see what it has become.
I also have a large 4k UHD blu-ray collection. You still have amazon I get most of my disc from there.

This is the way because you have to play whackamole and subscribe to a couple different streaming services to find a specific movie and they might not even have what you are looking for.

YouTube actually has last dragon on it for free.. rewatched it like a few weeks on itI keep the classics on DVD/BR for emergencies.

The cool thing about 4k blu rays is most actually also come with a digital download as well for the same price of just buying the digital download so its better to buy the physical copy.
Funny how all this digitization works. Mp3s were supposed to be the death of music on digital media but there are people discovering they don't like streaming and the algorithm. Plus, there is plenty of stuff not digitized. So vinyl saw a resurgence and now is the #1 physical media format being sold. Some artists release cassettes of their music as collectors items. Look at the video game industry: even with consoles going to harddrives and downloads, older physical copies of games are becoming sought after.
Streaming is cool but if something goes down, it's good to have something reliable to fall back on . Just like books.
