Has it occurred to her that maybe they don’t want to vote? Maybe they aren’t interested in enhancing society. Maybe this is as far as their dna wants to go.

It ain't about just enhancing society, it's about making an effort to protect your own interests as much as you can.
The thing I do love about Roe vs. Wade going away was that it was wake call for those who have this weird idea that long term norms can't just up and go away when the right or wrong folk (depending on how you feel about the issue) come into power.
Roe vs Wade literally went away because bernie bros stayed home, email haters either stayed home or voted for Trump and here we are.

In this day and age of the interweb, its impossible to really ban a book. In fact just adding it to that list will spark the curiosity of the very ones they're trying to keep from reading it. You know how kids are.
