Prince -- George Lopez Helps Family with Big Bucks

His shit is a mess.

I wouldn't say it was more or less but definitely a different type of respect or reverence. Michael's influence was much more pop and mainstream. Prince was a different type of individual with a totally different type of influence. IMO not necessarily bigger but definitely a deeper more artistic effect or influence. He was a huge iconic superstar yes but garnered much more artistic respect even from people from multiple different types of genres.

Just a different feel with Prince. Not as much pop commercialism IMO. Can't think of another artist in any genre with that type of effect. Unique individual. Michael? The Beatles? Maybe in his league or even bigger but definitely not the same IMO.

I have to go with this analysis as well....

Prince is being recognized as an artist...which is why we see so many MUSICIANS PLAYING INSTRUMENTS in his honor.....above all he was a SONGWRITER AND MUSICIAN!!!!!

Prince seen as an adult, and carried himself like one around others.
MJ seen as a child, and carried himself like one around others.

I didn't get a chance to read this thread so if I mention anything that's already been mentioned, my bad.

Gotta say Prince was my favorite musician ever. I always favored Prince over MJ in any discussion.

My favorite Prince songs (not in order): Dark, Dreamin' About U, Eye Hate U (album version & the remix), Saviour, Joy in Repetition, The Beautiful Ones, And God Created Woman, Somewhere Here On Earth, It's Gonna Be Lonley, Pink Cashmere, Another Lonely Christmas, Diamonds and Pearls

Other fav songs he wrote: Get It Up, 777-9311, Donald Trump (Black Version) (The Time), Nasty Girl (Vanity 6), Here Eye Come (Bria Valente)

My favorite performance I've seen over the last couple of weeks was "The Beautiful Ones" performance he did on George Lopez (I'm sure it's been posted), and the Super Bowl.

Before that, it was this version of "Joy in Repetition" he did in London in 2007. I liked it so much, I ended up buying this rare 3-disc bootleg album of live Prince performances called "One Nation Under a Groove" from overseas for like 50 dollars just to get a good quality rip of that performance in mp3 format. I couldn't find a live link for it anywhere so I bought it. (I'll upload it if anyone is interested)

The horn section and the guitar solo was just so cold:

Rest in Power.

I showed my co-worker (who only listens to classic rock) this video after Prince's passing. He said, "Why Tom Petty hating on him? Didn't they ask him to play that part? The other kid (Dhani) loved it...why Tom Petty so mad?"

I told him because they never knew Prince was that good until then. Clapton told them but they chose not to listen. And as usual when it comes to Prince, they got embarrassed.

R.I.P. Prince. I suspect your stories will be told until we all meet you uptown.
Petty's not hating, he's just more composed than Harrison's son. If you watch carefully, when Prince first starts to lean back off the stage Petty smiles, later on when Prince dips down Petty does also while smiling and urging prince on.

This.

The next day, Prince stepped out of the darkness and blew the roof off of the Waldorf-Astoria hotel. Petty, who had a perfect view of the proceedings, recalled it with awe. “You see me nodding at him, to say, ‘Go on, go on,'” he said. “I remember I leaned out at him at one point and gave him a ‘This is going great!’ kind of look. He just burned it up. You could feel the electricity of ‘something really big’s going down here.’”

EXCELLENT INTERVIEW: Brenda Bennett (the white chick) of Vanity 6 interviewed earlier this year, she talks about getting together with Susan Moonsie (Indian chick) of that same group, & trying to meet Prince:

This was dope. Thanks for posting. Just finished watching the whole thing. Well worth the hour and a half. Great tribute. Almost brings a little closure. Not that it answers some of the looming questions about his passing but just a proper and fairly thorough tribute and in depth discussion of the man's legacy.

Great post.
