NFL Announces Minority Requirement For All 32 Teams

The NFL has added a notable new rule for coaching staffs this year.

The NFL announced on Monday that each team will be required to have a “diverse” person on its offensive staff this upcoming season. A “diverse” person can be a female or member of an ethnic or racial minority.

The rule is being implemented to improve the chances of diverse people getting hired as head coaches.

“All NFL teams will be required to have a ‘diverse person (female or a member of an ethnic or racial minority)’ on staff as an offensive assistant in 2022,” Michael Gehlken tweeted. “This position will be funded, in part, by a stipend from league office. Rule designed to improve diversity of HC pipeline.”

And here’s the NFL’s official language stating its new rule:

“Beginning with the 2022 season, each club will hire a diverse person (female or a member of an ethnic or racial minority) as an ‘Offensive Assistant,'” the statement reads. “This person is to have a minimum of three (3) years of collegiate or professional coaching experience. The Offensive Assistant shall receive a one-year contract with salary and benefits to be determined by the employer club.”

The NFL has long been trying to make its coaching staffs more full of diverse individuals. In doing so the league is hoping to add more diverse head coaches.

Teams will be required to implement this new rule for the 2022 season.

Why? He's already got plenty of highlight reel in the league. His skills aren't a problem.

His highlight are now more than 5 years old - let him light up the CFL and then Teams cannot make an excuse. I agree he shouldn't have to do it but if what you are doing is not working, you have to try another tactic.

How many teams use this strategy with the garbage white backup QBs that they sign? What recent NFL QB has gone to the CFL to prove he belongs in the NFL after being the proven primary reason for his NFL team having gone to a superbowl? You're acting as if he's guaranteed an NFL QB opportunity if he goes to the CFL and lights it up. That's working backwards. But since you agree that what he's doing isn't working then try promoting his QB value vs his direct competition instead of creating this mythical path to an NFL opportunity. We both know that if he doesn't throw for 8,000 yards with 98 TDs in 1 season, they'll say see he's not good enough.
