DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Dallas officer Amber Guyger who fatally shot 26-year-old Botham Jeanafter mistaking his apartment for her own has been arrested and charged with manslaughter, according to the Texas Rangers.
She was booked into the Kaufman County Jail on Sunday.

Late Thursday evening, the off-duty Dallas officer, who was still in uniform, shot and killed Jean in his apartment after she apparently mistook his unit as her own.
Dallas police put the Texas Rangers in charge of the investigation, which is why, according to Police Chief Renee Hall, a warrant was put on hold for her arrest. The department had requested a warrant on Friday.
Guyger was officially identified on Saturday as the officer who killed the 26-year-old. She has been with the Dallas Police Department for four years.
I just read that manslaughter carries a heavier penalty in the state of Texas than murder, which is why they're choosing it. That doesn't make sense to me, but who am I....and I haven't researched it.
Following Merritt’s meeting with the district attorney, he decided against releasing the new evidence he believes will lead to Guyger’s arrest.
He said they “brought forward a witness and video evidence, not of the shooting itself” and that the narrative pushed by DPD is challenged by the evidence they presented.
