North End near Highland ParkJust got back from visiting Detroit for the first time. Went to a Black owned and operated CO-OP grocery store in/near The Highlands (I think). Loved it!
We're from the same hood. I don't recall that incident but I've seen some shit. I went into the army right when the crack epidemic started and by time I came home, almost all of my friends had been killed or were in jail. Growing up around that effects you in ways you don't even realize.I used to live in that area.
That canal ends in an intake center on Jefferson. When they take water in from the river, that canal starts flowing really fast...just like a toilet.
Somebody's dog (a big one) ended up dead in the water. I could smell the carcass from Jefferson. The bloated corpse floated around--right in front of my house- for a bout 3 days. Then it came back for another day or two.
Had to chase people out of my yard CONSTANTLY for wanting to hang out, fish, and basically treat it like it was a park.
Almost ALL the houses in the area Jefferson-Chalmers have VERY SERIOUS plumbing issues. The city has NO diagram of the sewage system. It is a WRECK.
The backyard of my old house is now nearly completely submerged under water.
I left that neighborhood shortly after I heard on the radio, while having morning coffee, that two dismembered bodies, in suitcases, were found floating down the canal.
Looks nice. You wouldn't want to live there.
Had family back there you ain't never lied they had one of the few houses that had no issues but that smell sometimes wasI used to live in that area.

The house next to the bridge used to be a little candy shop. It was a big deal to me as a kid to finally be able to walk to the bridge store by myself.
Right after I went into the army, a crack head robbed her and she closed it down. Damn shame.
We never had any plumbing problems except during the first flood in the 70's but my dad was a pipe fitter who had plumbing skills. I remember as a kid going down to Lakewood park and putting up sandbags.
