That's sort of a simplistic way to look at it. Without the majority of the players being in agreement, it's hard to just go hard against the 17th game & other stuff. Plus salaries have increased with the 17th game, so players of all levels are benefiting from that especially the lowest levels. And the weed issue should have been taken care of years ago, but the league would rather pump players full of addictive & destructive pain killers.
I always thought the players should have used the 17th game to fight for permanent healthcare and at the very least 90% guaranteed contracts.
As of right now, The NFL is the most profitable league and the only one without guaranteed contracts. You have scrubs in the NBA making more than some of the best NFL players. Yes, NFL plays the fewest amount of games, but it is the most brutal and suffer is the most brutal injuries (see Nick Chubb...I still say it's on sight if I ever see Minkah Fitzpatrick).
The NFL has one-way contracts. The player has to hold up 100% of the burden, and the team can cut the player at any time and only owe a relatively small percentage of the contract, only the guaranteed money.
Cincinnati quarterback Joe burrow signed a 5-year $275M contract, but only $146.5M is fully guaranteed. Jaren Jackson Jr. signed a 4 year , $104,720,000 contract with the Memphis Grizzlies that is fully guaranteed and most people don't know who he is. So the Bengals can cut Burrow after one season and only be on the hook for $91.1M and not $220M. Big difference
