I saw the Pistons vs Bulls and remember it. I don’t remember seeing the Celtics and Pistons and if I did, I’d call the Celtics some bitches too.

And Zeke isn’t underrated, he was a great player that no one liked. That includes his NBA peers and fans. Only Detroit fans like him so they’re they only ones that talk about him.

the infamous Celtic series they played Celtics was up and salley infamously said some shit to the camera like it's aggressive time and either threw an elbow or a punch towards camera.. Detroit started beating the Celtics up the rest of the series and won.. It's why the Celtics walked off the court cause they didn't respect that dirty shit.. told you bird didn't give a fuck about zeke either cause he wore them piston colors

Old enough to remember that series. Hell, picked up playing basketball when the Sixers/Trailblazers fought it out in the finals. It was my first introduction to Julius Erving. Made my Dad go buy me a backboard and ball for the house THAT day. (lol)
Anyway. If you really want to know the fact is viewership for the NBA was just starting to take off during the Bird/Johnson era. When that series ended, and the Celtics decided to walk off there were two things in play. The first was the Piston's style of play which was only a little more exaggerated that both the Celtics and Lakers. Things were tough back then. I distinctly remember no one talking about the "walk off" when it was actually happening. It may have been mentioned somewhere but it was definitely a whisper because there was no social network back int he day and sports was just a footnote when it came to the news. Add to the fact that there probably wasn't a single news agency in the country that would portray the Celtics of all teams as poor sportsman.
Enter the "Jordan" era. Even in losing that team was on the cusp of being rock stars not only around the NBA but the world because of Jordan. Everything involving that team was highlighted. The Pistons made their brand of ball ugly and the fact is no one liked them outside of Detroit. The absolute worst thing they could do was walk off after being defeated. Writers had their pen in hand just waiting for them to do or say (which they did in the past) something that would further tarnish their brand. They didn't disappoint.
You’re right, the media and others wouldn’t have said anything if Isiah complained about Bird not shaking hands. It might have to to with Jordan being the media darling at the time.
To me having the Bulls eliminates by the Pistons for years and Bulls shaking hands, I just think the Pistons owes them that respect.
But if that’s how teams handled it back then, then that’s on them.
