The argument could be made that working at Target IS a come-up of sorts. I already made the case that many "square" jobs offer a lot more social, psychological and even financial security that being a recurring actor on a fairly respected mainstream television show. How much more so than for being a porn star?
Look... I don't like it when people equate porn stars to prostitutes because there IS a significant difference. But if you want to be reductionist about it, both are essentially about having sex for money. Now, if you saw a chick standing on the corner night after night, having sex with men in cars to make a living... and then later you saw her working at Target, you'd probably congratulate her for getting her life on track and improving herself. Why then when you see a porn performer do the same thing, we think she somehow downgraded?
I think it's because those of us who are so deep into the porn world, who are so enveloped in this bubble... we see porn stars as icons of sorts. Stepping down from that to work at a department store is like falling down from godhood. But I bet if you ask that girl's family members, they would tell you she's doing better for herself instead of getting assfucked on camera.
