He's right on Dave end, sheep are sheep and most of you are just following to follow instead of thinking,Chappelle wasn't the guy when he was in that pot movie which was trash, and the first season of the Chappelle show was garbage,I remember like it was yesterday how people were like iffy on it talking about "we'll see if it picks up and gets better...".Dave's netflix comedy was ok,he had one good one and the other one was a sleeper.....

Now he's the king?like Kevin was huh....right

The samething was said after the Kings Of Comedy came out, there's no way Steve,Ced and DL were kings of shit but they took a decent moment from them and made it work which led up to the real king amongst them which was Bernie and he closed that motherfucker out holding the crown.

Mad Tv wasn't funny,Ares said he tried to get Paul Moonie a job as a writer on there, just think where would they went with that?we would be talking about it right now.

Micheal Blackson isn't funny, give him an hour special and watch him bomb, that african shit will get boring fast.

This cat hates on all kind of successful Brothers, I feel like I almost never hear him speak unless he is hating. I even hate using that word, because its misused.....

I def don't understand the Dave did not cater to Black people opinions. Dude throws up the W in the middle of his sketch show, is on the pulse of hip hop since the beginning, did ALL clubs, not just Black. Did Def comedy jam... I do think he has more intellectual show which I can only assume is why people say he doesnt cater towards 'Black audience'.... I mean he stopped his latest show to have a tribute or a piece about Emmit Till, how much more Black can you get... He respects and supports Cap...

I think the greatness he has is, he has a white audience that loves him, he has a Black audience that loves him and all races in-between. Then me and my 70 year old moms watched his special and was both DYING. That is talent.

SN: Moms was like I wish he wouldnt say bitch as much lol. But that was her only complaint, she left saying this brother is smart.

This is what I'm talking about fam.

My pops is 74 years old and we was watching that NYE special dying of laughter. I sat back and thought, "who else can do this in today's climate??"

Dave touches EVERYONE, regardless of
race or age. That's why he's lumped into the category of GOAT alongside Pryor, Murphy, Rock, Carlin etc..

For Faizon NOT to acknowledge or realize that speaks volumes about his agenda towards someone he probably deep down envies.

And he's from Silver Spring Faizon, not yellow springs. Throw some respect on my DMV.

Im not apart of your lgbt circle. Don't call me what u call ya homies while u all paint your nails in your she- he cave.

Breh is a E - list actor . He is on the level of monique . He talks down like he's on that Chris Rock , Eddie , Charlie Murphy level but he never will be.

I've met Mr. Townsend a time or two. His wisdom and knowledge about grinding it out in Hollywood is legendary .

:thefinger: this fat fuck
well, he never said he's on eddie or chris rock level. he said david didn't pop until chapelle show. that is true. i don't agree with the 1st season being wack. but season 2 was crazzzy. the robert townsend shit , i understand his stance. if nobody is giving you work in hollywood and cosby is the only one willing to give you a check to direct his netflix show, and the shit pop off with cosby you staying clear of him. fasion position is that " nigga, you ain't getting no money from hollywood but you saying fuck this nigga when hollywood not fucking with you. i like the fact that he called judd apatow on his bullshit. rallying against cosby but when your friend is called on some rape shit you ain't giving the same energy.

As usual, so eloquently put, ESPECIALLY the first bit about maturation = appreciation.
:bravo:
he did give dave his props for his recent netflix nye show. he said dave didn't have a classic special.we could argue that. he went on say eddie and rock got classic shit even asking ctg to quote a dave joke, which he couldn't. then he asked him to quote a eddie or rock joke, which ctg ran down the line. i don't agree about season 1 of chapelle show. but killing em softly was cool. its not classic.

Niggas are sheep because they like a comedian thats funny? Like the other brother said earlier in this thread, Dave chappelle requires a certain level of intellect. Hes not on all that coonin and buffoonin. SO I guess certain people don't like it :dunno:

He almost had a good point, If he would have just narrowed it to a black perspective.

I think Dave is not only hilarious, but is the best improvisational comedian maybe ever; But Dave popularity does stem from white people liking him.

He should have just said that. He made it into like "what hood classics" does dave have? But Dave has never been the "black peoples" comedian.
Dave is an intelligent persons comedian. I wish people would stop associating Black with hood and if you ain't hood you ain't Black...or black enough.

I'm hood adjacent.

Dave got skills. White people dig him, too. So what. So do a lot of black people and Latino people, and Asian people. It's not like Dave went all Bone Thugs after The Crossroads blew up - changed his whole style to suit white people.

He didn't.

Faizon Love seems bitter that Dave is funnier and has made more money than he has. I follow a lot of standup. I can't recall a Faizon Love one that was better than Chapelles.

He's really trying to slander Dave it feels.

The thing is comedians like Dave and Chris Rock take a certain degree of intelligence and maturity to be appreciated.

Faizon has always come across as someone who is ignorant and not very intelligent so I'm not really surprised by his opinion of Dave.

I don't even think its hating I just think Faizon seems to embrace and even take pride in the worst of us and particularly in individuals who represent the worst of us so therefore I think he isn't capable of relating to a comedian like Dave.
Bingo...

Faizon isn't the first "hood" comedian to question Dave's "blackness" because he didn't come up through the black comedy circuit.
Yea he is but I understand him a lil better now after watching all of that shit. He frustrated. That was some real shit about Sly Stallone though. Only Quentin be always calling us ******* and shit. Split his fucking wig
edit. Man them dudes fags on this show For real. Dick riders and women haters. They never attack dudes. C is a pole smoking faggot

It seems like he hating, but I understand where he coming from. The TV show is what propelled Dave. He was not on the Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Eddie Murphy level until that tv show. As some have said Dave is an intelligent person's comic, so his jokes go over some people's heads.

what Black folks are you talking about Mr Historian? cause ALL the folks i hung around remember him from that...THEN his tv and movie roles.
First in the post you responded to I stated that black folk did not follow him like they did the others. So I didn't say people didn't know him. In my other post I stated most black folk didn't know him or didn't think he was funny until the Chappelle show.

So you can pretend like Dave was some big star in the black community like the other breakout stars from Df Comedy but he was basically under the radar to black folk until Chappelle Show.

What Black comedian's popularity doesn't stem from white people liking them? They are still the majority of the country. It's a stupid statement. As dumb as the whole crossover rapper argument from the 90's. More people like them so they somehow deserve less credit or respect. Faizon sounds like he just wants hear himself speak.

He's actually correct about White America (and other comedians) pumping Daves image. Also, him not being a "King Of Comedy". Would u put Dave above Eddie, Richard? Even George Carlin? But when he started talking about how Dave has never been funny...he lost me.

Interesting. Faizon’s take is the same as Yvette Carnell’s take that Dave don’t relate to black folk because he doesn’t perform ghetto humor. Just dumb.

Maybe Dave is funny and he’s not.

BTW, can somebody remind me of a classic comedy bit or show that Faizon dropped that I missed?

Dave Chapelle is my guy. He's funny as fuck and he's plugged in with the good music. I've never laughed at a Kevin Hart joke. Katt Williams was funny 10-11 years ago. Martin not doing standup anymore. Eddie not doing standup. Chris Rock is funny as fuck. Bernie Mac is dead. Steve Harvey has always been ehhh. Never liked DL Hughley comedy, but he's plugged into the politics these days, so I rock with that. Cedric is pretty funny. Not up there with any of the GOAT, but he hold his own. Same for Lavell Crawford. Who did I miss?

True. But if you really think about it, the Chappelle show was a hood classic. That shit wasn't necessarily geard towards white people. It was a pretty hood show. Or am I wrong?

I don't think from Dave's perspective it was geared toward white people. He was just making comedy, but he became popular with white people, and that is what causes black comedians to blow up. Whether it is Eddie Murphy, Flip Wilson, Richard Pryor, Tyler Perry, Kevin Hart, or Martin Lawrence: they started out just doing their art, and then they blow up when white folks take notice. This is to be expected, as we are a smaller percentage of the population. Tyler Perry was popular and doing plays for years for black and church audiences before he put out his first movie.

I recall when Dave said he was filming one of the sketches and the way one of the crew members was laughing made him feel that he was laughing AT him rather than WITH him and it made him uncomfortable and caused him to reevaluate things. It's a fine line to walk. Yeah it's great to have white fans, but you can't really control their response to your comedy. The reason a black audience laughs may not be the same reason a white audience laughs. Some see black comedy as a type of voyeurism. Are they laughing because they get it and understand it and enjoy it on a positive level or because they see it as a form of ridicule in regards to black people? It's not something he can control, regardless of the intent behind what he puts out, someone can twist it. I'm not going to hate on him for being able to make money because white folks discovered how great he is as well. I don't see any signs that he has changed or turned his back on the black community. He doesn't deny there are race issues or try to hide from them and he still reaches out to young folks. Other than that give Trump a chance remark, I can't recall anything he has done I've looked sideways at, and I can't really even fault him on that because, once Trump won the election, I was also of the mindset that I'd be willing to see what he does once he got in office.

Mike Epps and Aries Spears hate on Kevin Hart and Chris Tucker.
Faison Love hates on Dave Chappell.
Mo'Nique hates on Sheryl Underwood.

Why???

Could it be jealousy? Used to be the unspoken rule that comedians never dissed other comedians because because they knew how hard it was to make it in the business.

Now it seem backbiters like Faison, Epps and Spears are bitter because they feel "hey I'm funnier than that guy, why is he getting big money and opportunities and I'm not"?

Big egos, limited talent and negativity are the prime reasons they remain second and third tier comedians, in my opinion. :hmm:
