Dana wanted to milk his prize cow as much as possible. Last I heard he wanted to get done with this so he can get Conor a title defense before the end of the year.
Exactly. And they just sold it for all that money. Right at the right time. Dana cashed in like Floyd.
Because the UFC's future is suspect.
A lot of their PPV matches are turned upside down by injuries
and Dana bashes champions for not being exciting enough.

McGregor holds belts in two weight classes and due to the UFC treating the fighters like independent contractors they don't have any multi-fight contracts lined up; every fight is negotiated on it's own merit. Add to that Conner is an international name and came off a 9 figure payday...

No doubt. Props to the ref for stopping it too. McGregor could have been brain damaged if it went too much longer. McGregor should thank the ref.
What I'm always curious about is how their endorsement deals are set up. You never see them doing anything without the UFC's permission. I'm guessing the UFC gets a piece of that.
They need to be careful with COnor. Personally I'll be surprised if he fights at 145 again, but I DO see him fighting Paulie next year. Too much money not to be made there.

My brother NO.. Floyd could not do anything in the Octagon unless Connor toyed with him just life Floyd toyed with him in the ring. He went passed 4 rounds because thats the plan.... he doesn't quite have the ufc by the balls. they still own him. They had to allow him to do this fight, without their OK he wouldn't have made shit. But, Dana knew (just like all boxing fans knew) that Conor wasn't going to win. But he hoped that Conor looked good... just a good 5 rounds and land a few big shots, not be a clown. That dude did a lot to bring credibility to both him and by extension the UFC brand.
People dont know that Connor boxed a lot growing up. I think he started out as a child boxing, then got into kick boxing. So he wasn't a complete noob like a lot of UFC fighters are. It's not like an average MMA fighter trying to box. IF he was only a boxer, he may have had a career as a low level journeyman fighter, making 5 to 10k a fight. MMA got him on, and then he figured out that the louder and more cocky he was, the more people wanted to pay to see him fight. He jumped that up enough to convince floyd to take an easy 9 figure payday... 9 figures man... this is what win win looks like.
