Well damn....

Ford Plans to Build 600,000 EVs Annually by 2023, Over 2 Million by 2026

Ford expects demand for its F-150 Lightning, Mach-E and the rest of its EV portfolio to grow significantly over the next few year.

What's happening
Ford announced its plans to ramp global electric truck, van and SUV production up to 600,000 units annually by 2023.
Why it matters
Demand for EVs (and the batteries that power them) is expected to accelerate dramatically over the next few years.
What's next
Ford will begin using new, less expensive batteries in the Mustang Mach-E next year and in the F-150 Lightning by 2024.

A question often raised by electric vehicle naysayers, believers and manufacturers alike is, where are we going to get the materials and batteries to power all of these EVs? Ford is confident that it has the answer, announcing Thursday that it has secured materials contracts that will enable a global production capacity of around 600,000 EVs annually by late 2023 and scale to an annual output of over 2 million vehicles by 2026.
Ford cites an EY study saying more than half (52%) of global consumers intending to buy a car in the next two years intend to choose an EV or hybrid electric vehicle. Here in the US, that number drops to 29% of surveyed shoppers, but that's still a lot of demand for electric cars and the batteries to run them. Ford's supply chain solution is twofold: It's diversifying its battery chemistries and partnering with multiple battery and materials suppliers around the world to build the 60 gigawatt hours' worth of battery capacity it'll need each year to meet demand.
The automaker says that it will begin adding lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell chemistry into its product portfolio alongside the current nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) packs beginning with the Mustang Mach-E next year and the F-150 Lightning electric pickup in 2024. LFP has the advantage of using less rare materials in its chemistry, making it easier to source and less expensive per kilowatt-hour, about 10% to 15% less expensive according to Ford's estimates.

They have to they really have to this gas thing is for the birds at this point. Gas prices is dropping fast right now but you know in the next year or two is going to do the same shit again so it’s best to hurry up and get off of oil Within the next 20 years.

If we stay purely focused on gas its gonna be Mad Max fury road out here in 20-25 years...

Big oil saw mfkrs was paying a US average of over $5/gal....they're gonna want those same profits again.....it's the American way

But we as consumers need an alternative...this will not be sustainable for the next 100 years

Yeah because if they would not have gotten so greedy they could have extended the combustion engine a little longer but with the gas prices gone all over the place all over the world people are starting to say fuck this shit where is the electric cars.

Talked to my dealer. I'm next in line. Hopefully I'll be ordering my Lariat in a week or two.

Thousands of Canadian residents awoke Christmas ay with no electricity after a massive winter storm swept across the area. One southern Ontario resident was able to keep the lights on for almost two days after plugging in his Ford F-150 Lightning, and still had plenty of battery left after the power came back on.

What was the total cost?

I got the Lariat with the extended range battery. With the retractable Tonneau Cover and a couple other add-ons, the total was 90.6k but I bought another cover that is just as nice but doesn't take up as much room when retracted so if I can sell the factory cover (that will be still in the box) for the $2,200 that i bought it for, my total cost for the truck will be $88.400.

Test drive one for a weekend and you'll see why I paid so much.

sidebar: I wonder if the batteries on all of them made are having issues.... or if maybe they're working with a "bad batch" now

You dodged a bullet. People are not happy w/ this truck's performance and the cost of the infrastructure you need at your house to really take advantage of all the truck's features.

Totally untrue fam.

Go to Lightning message boards. ALL the owners LOVE their trucks!

... and don't say it like that. I'm still getting it... it's built and everything. It's just a delay until they figure out why one truck's battery failed pre-shipment quality test.

It's still coming... trust that.

Cool... I just saw some YouTube reviews that didn't care for the truck and its cold weather and towing performance.

Hey... Hope you get your truck soon and enjoy it!

If you are going by the Hoovie's Garage video a while back, you should know that he later said that he found out that the battery in his truck was bad literally the day after he sold it, which probably explained a lot of the problems he had.

And the infrastructure cost isn't as bad as people have made it out to be. If you got a dryer in your home you have 208/240 Volts available. And a lot of banks are starting to finance the cost of the charger along with the car. With installation it would add about $2000 to the total.

Ford Dealer Ruins Ford F-150 Lightning Trying to Make it Look Like a Vintage Ford F-150

AA18nbrI.img

2023 Ford F-150 Lightning | Ford

Turning modern trucks into vintage versions of their older self is a risky endeavor. We all want the impeccable styling of vintage automotive design with the modern reliability and comfort of new vehicles. It’s a nearly universal desire. However, it rarely works. There is something in the natural order of our world that prohibits it. Once in a blue moon, it works, but it takes incredible taste and skill to pull it off. This Ford F-150 Lightning vintage glow-up seems devoid of both of those key ingredients. It looks, somehow, less like a vintage Ford F-150 than it looks like a modern one.

What happened to this custom Ford F-150 Lightning?
While the desire to make a vintage-inspired modern truck is mighty tough to resist, it’s efforts like this that prove why we should. Let me be clear; it’s not that the truck is that bad; the problem is, it’s almost good, but just doesn’t exactly work.

The Drive reports that a Ford dealership in Wacaunda, Illinois, completely redecorated the exterior of a new Ford F-150 Lightning. The custom work features a vintage Ford F-150 paint job of two-tone red and white. They even matched the interior with red quilted leather.

The other hard-to-miss custom work they added was a pile of chrome accents that can probably be seen clearly from space. They covered this truck with chrome like it was a blanket; everything from the mirror caps to the door handles, badging, and even Lightning script on the fenders got hit with the shiny stuff.

The Drive wonders aloud about who this might be for. It’s a good question. If the Boomer generation is least likely to buy an EV, according to The Zebra, why would they dress an EV to look like the trucks this demographic grew up with? Maybe they thought it could trick ‘em?

On some hand, the work was done thoroughly enough to warrant some level of respect. On some other hand, none of it really works. The giant red grille is a complete departure from the vintage attempt. It completely pulls you out of the effort. Not to mention, you can paint a cat with giraffe spots, but that won’t make it look like one. This truck just clearly looks like a Ford F-150 Lightning with an ill-fitting retro paint design. The problem here is some people at Ford worked hard to make that paint design work for the body of the truck it was designed for. The Ford Lightning ain’t that truck. Not one design element is even similar to the vintage Ford F-150s of the ‘60s and ‘70s.

That's why I'm going to love this Lightning because it still looks like an F-150 and NOT like those weird George Jetson looking EVs that's out now. I like the vintage look... I don't want/need to stand out from the crowd.

ford can fuck up a wet dream. The plan is to lock up the materials to build the batteries - IIRC the biggest deposits are in Afrika (surprise) and china - and develop batteries that go longer than teslas.
Yet they managed to fuck it up.
However, as much of a shitshow as American carmakers are, they have massive amounts of money and eventually they will drown elon. Because after all tesla is more a status thing than a perfect car. The horror stories are legion.

And the germans are well on their way with some gorgeous styles only bound to get better.

But watch the japanese. Their cars go from mundane to hideous in looks but you know they will be the best longterm option.
