Funkmaster Flex says Drake would’ve been greatest of all time, even better than Jay-Z, if reference tracks hadn’t come out?

What’s his criteria based on?

Lyrical ability?
Flow?
Cadence?
Discography?
Battles?
Sales?
Impact on Hiphop?
I base my opinion of rappers strictly on the first three. They are the foundation of rap, and just as necessary to possess as a learning chords if you want to play guitar. A wack rapper trying to do their own thing is okay with me, but I don't like a rapper that copies someone's style and tries to present it as their own.

Really? Is this an issue kats are concerned about?!? This is the male version of, “The Real”. They’re not talking about whether or not the music is good or not, they’re yapping’ about who’s the best!
Listen to Flex gossip... bitch-made! BTW, he needs to fuckin’ retire already and let someone young “eat” off their contemporaries.

Flex don’t want no issues in philly. He can barely move around in jersey thanks to treach. He know them philly dudes hold gillie in high regards

yeah that IS true... i don;t mess with them Philly cats. But damn its a ZOOM call cuzz...

and he basically called Flex liking chicks with d*cks.

i feel if he snapped Philly would understand.

Even Rollo looked at Gillie strange over his shoulder when he said that sh*t.

Mmhhmmm,
The things is people get best confused with whom they like.

Example-

Person 1:Michael Jackson is the greatest entertainer of all time!!!

Person 2: He allegedly raped kids so how can he be?

sadly both things can be true

and most times they are

and in many cases of our musical "greats" their private lives if focused upon, scrutinized and considered seriously by the public?

Would completely tarnish many of our legend's legacies

MANY.

but we compartmentalize we are biased we show favoritism...

its human

that's why we gotta be careful when we judge others for artists like Cosby, R. Kelly, Elvis, Chuck Berry, Marvin Gaye, Phil Spector, James Brown, etc.

I beg to differ. A human beings artistry should have nothing to do with their personal lives.
What R.Kelly did in his romantic life has nothing to do with the impact of his music, nor the quality of his work.

your completely misunderstanding what I wrote

my point was it is up to the listener, the fan to decide

the music is ONE thing and the MAN is another

some cannot separate many can.

and some do it case by case

that is their CHOICE

and its valid

If someone cannot listen to R. Kelly becomes many of his songs BLATANTLY contain lyrics about underage girls etc...

that is VALID

I don't listen to him like that either anymore

but I would NEVER shame anyone that DOES.

yeah maybe upon further inspection some of the reasoning may be hypocritical but its STILL valid

you can like or not like whoever you want for whatever REASON you want

but that is something the public has to accept.

that most of their "heroes" aint that heroic

and it aint BEGIN or END with R. Kelly

they just sing good, play pretend at a high level, dance well or run fast.

Human beings artistry is mostly inspired by their personal lives. This is why the saying “art imitates life” exists. And life is the driving factor as to why artists are so relatable. Hence Jay-Z’s entire catalog being one big therapy session. People can relate to it. They understand it because they’re going through it, have been through it or can at worst, empathize.

On one of his greatest and most underrated verses:

“I just tackle the subject, the flak from the public is nothing
I know real niggas happen to love it
If you don't like it, then look in the mirror
Most likely you ain't live it so you don't get it
You ain't did it, so you can't vision, the picture I'm painting
Ain't vivid, the language I'm spitting is so foreign to ya..”

That being said, I’m sure R. Kelly’s songs are inspired from his personal experiences which make them so relatable and such big hits.

You may not like or approve of his lifestyles and that’s fair, but it’s those very experiences many times that make the songs such classics.

^^^^^^

100%

its the whole separate the ART form the ARTIST argument.

Funny how we do it consciously and unconsciously all the TIME

and NOT only in Entertainment

(ie I only voted for Trump because of of my taxes)

Yessir. Time reveals all. Just depends on how vested you are into an artist before your world comes potentially crashing down.

One thing I’ve always noticed is that there’s a WEALTH of dirt, the higher up the social status you go.

Just a matter of time ..
