Goddamn gas prices

I gas up at Costco exclusively now. First thing Saturday mornings. I hardly need to drive, work from home and got Marta if I go to the office. Just drive for groceries or to see friends.

One to two tanks of gas lasts me a month.

Yup same here...I usually gas up early Sat. mornings or early during the week (like when it opens up which is usually around 6 a.m.). I noticed gas was high when on Saturday mornings at around 7:30 am there was a line of cars at the Costco. I was thinking I have never seen this before...

I’m seeing high 7’s and $8 for premium all over the Bay, before it was just a few places now at least 70%. The rest are like 6.90-7.20 . There’s really no excuse for this shit

With oil prices at $115 a barrel, it's very uncomfortable," said Zandi. That is close to the level oil futures were trading at midday Thursday. "At $130 a barrel, we're on the edge. If it gets to $150, I don't think there's any way not go to into recession."

Listening to the news this morning.

National average is $4.86/gal.

Getting closer to $5/gal for the National average.

You cats paying over $6/gal now, when the national average hits $5/gal, you cats will definitely be getting close to $8/gal.

Trump told Saudi: Cut oil supply or lose U.S. military support

As the United States pressed Saudi Arabia to end its oil price war with Russia, President Donald Trump gave Saudi leaders an ultimatum.

In an April 2 phone call, Trump told Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman that unless the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) started cutting oil production, he would be powerless to stop lawmakers from passing legislation to withdraw U.S. troops from the kingdom, four sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Its gotten so bad, that when I'm on the highway, I draft like a nascar driver
I'll turn on my adaptive cruise control
And just follow behind a big truck, to minimize wind resistance & get better mileage
I don't follow as close as the pic below, but you get the general idea.....

To get the best gas mileage….

- Tires are properly inflated, balanced and rotated as scheduled

- Correct Coolant in tank.

- Try operating the car without A/C if possible.

- Reduce idling.

- Decrease rapid acceleration.

- Follow posted speed limits.

Biggest issue I have, depending on where you live I guess. Where I am, trucks are typically the #1 reason windshields get broken with rocks that get picked up by truck tires.

I learned after replacing a few windshields, trucks will send a pebble at your windshield at 80mph and start that small crack that walks over the next few months.

Trucks... I avoid them like a plague

Yeah, good point
But I guess it depends on what roads you are driving on
And how close you are to the truck
I guess I've just been lucky

Im a OTR driver and yes you are correct.

And those tires, they are under a lot of stress. Now that the temperature is warming up, semi tires are good for blowouts.

That semi is traveling at 65+ mph on the freeway. The tires are usually under 110 psi. That big mofo fully inflated can weigh as much as 300+ lbs.

That tire blows out, it’s like a bomb with rubber shrapnel going everywhere. Strong enough to crack your radiator if hit right.

It amazes me seeing people hover around me like they are caught in my gravitational pull.

Good points as well
This is what I usually do...
1. Double check & make sure tires are inflated properly every week

2. When driving in the city, at low speeds, roll down the windows & crack your sunroof
While city driving, the A/C goes on only when it gets too hot outside (like over 80 degrees)

3. When driving in the city, & coming up to a red light
Just take your foot off the gas a little early & let the car roll forward
And don't take off like a mad man when the light turns green
These above should be just simple common sense

4. When driving on the highway, do the opposite & roll the windows up
Because going fast with the windows down creates a lot of drag

5. Cruise control as much as possible
(the only exception is if your constantly driving up & down hills often)

6. Draft behind semi trucks if possible
I usually keep some distance back b/c some don't like you following behind them
I usually keep like 2-3 car lengths back
Plus I have adaptive cruise control, so my car adjusts automatically if the trucks in front of me slow down

I'm in Houston. When I first moved here, always wondered why so many people had long cracks on their windshields. My truck, my wife's car, daughter's car and oldest son's, all windshields been replaced at some point. And as soon as I get a crack, it's cool that insurance covers the repair. So I know to catch them early now.

How much does it save if you charge it nightly?

My light bill went from 9¢ per kwh to 14¢, and I got it cheap. Right now average is 17-21¢.

Won't your light bill be cray?

Yup everyone is talking about electric cars right now
But ninjas are not taking into account that electric companies will start raising their prices too
In another 5 more years, watch these electric companies start jacking up the price per kwh

Drafting larger vehicles for better fuel efficiency

Yeah it does make for better fuel efficiency but my foot is heavy and can't drive that slow. Speed limit here is generally 60-65mph and everyone does 80-90mph. That's the norm.

Only time I've sat behind trucks is in heavy snow storms when I used to live upstate NY and travel back and forth to NYC. Driving behind trucks when you can't see the road, you know anything they hit will be pushed out the way.

Then that's the solar panels and the batteries.
I really don't know if it's worth it or not. Maybe others on the board who have it can chime in.

Just seeing all the people on FB and IG comments when companies have ads posted about free solar, I see many complaining. So I never bothered. But lately it seems like every other week them dudes come to my door pushing free solar.

I'm going to tell you all the trick

If there is any store in your area that offers fuel perks, use that shit.

In Ohio, and I guess the Midwest, there is a store called Giant Eagle, and the gas station is called GetGo. Every payday I buy 2-3 $200 gift cards, and each gift card is $0.40 off.per.gallon

Don't spend your cash to pay your bills or buy groceries or pay for anything. Pay for everything with these gift cards. Pay your light bill, your gas bill or any other bill with these gift cards. Do not use your debit cards because they don't help you

Today I just got gas for $2.40 a gallon because I had $2.50 off per gallon

Also utilize GasBuddy to find the cheapest gas in your area

You're welcome
