Brady

All could have rode off into the sunset after that last championship...ring...belt etc BUT they always hang around longer than they should have. And instead of retiring while hoisting the trophy and leaving thru the front door triumphant... they stay until the wheels literally fall off then go out thru the side door.

example...brady retired,,then unretired and won a superbowl and if he had quit AT THAT MOMENT..he would have went out on top and possibly saved his marriage....but nooooooo...got to have one more ride and now after a sucky season (for his standard) he retires on a tweet. :rolleyes2:

Once you've done something for so long it's hard to stop doing it and they all have one thing against them that they can't win against and that's TIME and as it continue to go on age begins to set in and they can't run like they used to,can't jump as high, need more rest and recovery than they did when they were younger.

The body says slow down but their minds says we can still compete.....get out there tweak something,as Mike Tyson said "It's Spinal..."

The retarded motherfuckers think this way cause every year they fuck off more and more money

Barry Sanders, Andre Ward, George St. Pierre and maybe Mayweather are the only ones I can think of.

I used to get bothered when athletes competed way past their prime but realize that they are prioritizing their desires over what people think about them. It’s their talent, not ours.

I don't think Bolt retired after the last major win... He certainly set records and marks but I'm talking about an athlete winning that last thing and saying I'm DONE...on that last major win.

Well, thats not quite how you postured your initial question. Bolt didn't "hang around longer than he should have".

If quitting after the last thing you competed in makes you leave out on top, then the answers gonna be skewed.

So if Lebron wins another ring with the lakers say next year.... Would you want to see him retire then or keep playing until his son gets in the league and on the same team as him since he expressed he'd like to play with his son on an NBA team before he goes. But THAT team is nowhere near winning a ring.

he's one for sure...undefeated is undeniable.

BUT....(theres always a but :giggle: ) there should be an asterisk on that record.

In terms of floyd's BOXING LEGACY...taking a fight with mcgregor was beneath him. Sure may is a PRIZE fighter but fuck... if he was guaranteed 300 million to fight a kangaroo would cats still think its good for his boxing legacy???

That's what mcgregor was... a fucking kangaroo...ANYONE who has NO PROFESSIONAL BOXING EXPERIENCE, talking shit about how they can hang with a man who is an ELITE boxer with an UNDEFEATED RECORD should not have been taken seriously period. And fighting that shit besmirches his record and boxing legacy IMO.

*Conor McGregor fight was BS.:rolleyes::rolleyes::giggle:

And 10 rounds??? floyd should have got his ass out of there inside 5 just to prove a point....

but thats just me. :giggle: otherwise he's one who went out on top.

Bingo

And everybody was mad that he did retire so early..I know I was
I'm a huge Bears fan and love Walter Payton but B. Sanders is the best back I have ever seen. People forget about his college years he rushed for like 2600 yards in one season in college with like 38 TD's lol. Every gave he was taking it like 80 yards. Probably the best college season of all time. Faulk had an amazing season too in college at San Diego State.

George st Pierre isn't the goat, he got knocked out by Matt serra and got the breaks beat off him in his retirement fight vs johnny Hendricks, coming back to fight in a different weight to beat a literally one eyed Micheal bisping also wasn't very impressive.

Mayweather on the other hand is a good choice.

Jim Brown did. He was already the NFL's all-time leading rusher before he quit, he was the league MVP in his last year, and he retired from the NFL before he turned 30.

Was making more money doing movies, was delayed for training camp while filming 'The Dirty Dozen' and they said "Come Play or don't Play no' mo"... he said "Fucc U, I'm making more money here anyway, I QUIT !!"

The Mcgregor fight was entertainment and not a licensed match.

I was about to add this myself. I'm from Cleveland so I know the story

Back in the days, NFL players didn't make the money they're making now. A lot of the players worked at car dealerships and things like that in the off season. Jim Brown was filming The Dirty Dozen

Filming for The Dirty Dozen ran over and ran into Brown's training camp. Brown's owner Art Modell gave Jim Brown an ultimatum, to get his ass back for training camp or else

Jim Brown said fuck you and retired

He actually thought about coming back when Franco Harris got close to his rushing record because he disliked Franco Harris so much and consider him a punk because he always ran out of bound rather than face contact, but Franco Harris never beat his rushing record

Usually one retiring as a champion is referred to as going out on top instead of the specific player\person actually being at their best in their sport at the time.

Nah that's just your interpretation. there have been plenty of bums on championship teams that have quit after they won the title. This is about on top of the game. In team sports if you are the best at your position you are on top.
