I disagree with your sentiment good brother. Every Black person in here has enjoyed Spike Lee's movies. We all know Malcom X was one of the best films of all time as was Do the Right Thing. Why is the Oscars considered the preeminent in the field? We are Black people we are much different from white people we have to value our work. White folks throw him a bone and he's excited. The youth see his reaction and it reaffirms the Oscar's supremacy over us in their minds.
We need to praise our own stuff and honor our own works. The Oscar's is not the standard bearer or a point of achievement for black folks. The longer we think it is the longer we suffer.

What is then? Everybody on here makes fun of BET and TV One awards. We tried doing our own thing and everybody devalues it and laughs at them for being generic, not important or “ghetto”. So what do you want Spike to do? Winning an Oscar gets you recognition and more work in Hollywood, these are facts. Winning a BET award does not.

naw...i'm thinking if what everyone is saying is my best work gets snubbed for driving miss daisy then I'm thinking my colleagues are some coin flipping randomizing assholes and all this shit is arbitrary rather than based on some kind of serious metric. Therefore getting a nom or a trophy gets met with the same level of consideration.

Spike of all people should know he shouldn't let cacs or their industry think they validate his career.

None of that changes the fact that the Academy is the preeminent film organization in the country. You can decide to tell them to fuck off, you can boycott, but nothing changes that.

You guys thinking spike is looking for his career to be validated. Maybe he’s not. Maybe this is a childhood dream. Maybe, before he even got hirst first break, he made this a goal. Maybe he watched the oscars every year, saw sydney poitier accept his oscar and dreamt of the day he followed in those footsteps.

Maybe he’s not grovelling to white people like you guys think. After all these years, can you give him space to be happy that something he dreamt of as a kid might come true?

BET was started by a Blackman, aquired byba bigger company but still Black ran, and content made for a predominately Black audience. Tvone is still Black owned but they got no award show. BET being the first and still the biggest (Mostly because of the resources provided by the parent company), it is THE premiere BLACK channel. It only sucks sometimes because the Black people running it find it hard to connect with the Black audience.


Find out where else you can put a series on new edition and Bobby brown at primetine then come back with that "you know it ain't Black owned, right?" Talk. Same with the "Tales" series, and other Black content that wasnt greenlit anywhere else. Only reason Black news isn't on there anymore is because Black people don't seem to.wanna watch it , based on the ratings.
