Because that scene was unnecessary, take out the sex scenes and this show could easily be pg13. It seems they just put these random sex scenes in there for it to get the M rating.

In fairness to Lord Corlys, his wife was a bad ass Targaryen princess with the 2nd or 3rd largest dragon in the world.
Not claiming his sons before now had a lot more to do with that than him just being an absentee father.
He probably wanted to claim them the second his saw his true born heir was flaming harder than his dragon. Only to look over at his wife, giving him the 'I wish you would' look and smile.
