Yeah he was thinking about then sequels. I remember when in the anniversary vhs box set when inwas in high school there was interview segments before each movie started and he said he wrote star wars asnone big movie broken down in three acts and the og trilogy was the second act. He decided to break them down into movies. He then discussed in brief details how enough draft for the prequels.
