FLINT, Mich. -- Jaden Smith's foundation and a church are working to bring cleaner water to Flint, Michigan.

The rapper's organization and First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church on Friday announced they'll deploy a mobile water filtration system known as "The Water Box" that reduces lead and other potential contaminants.

The 20-year-old's JUST goods company collaborated with the church to design and engineer the system. He is the son of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith.

The church has distributed over 5 million bottles of water to residents, but bottled water donations are on the decline.

Flint has been replacing water lines after lead-tainted water was discovered in 2014. Lead began leaching from pipes after the city tapped the Flint River for drinking water without properly treating it to reduce corrosion.

"going to fix Flint"

It is astounding that Flint isn't fixed yet.

Voting matters. Initially the GOP blocked funds, then *I think* a lesser amount was approved. I'm not sure what happened after that. We'll see what happens.

This is the idea that Will and Jada tried to instill in their kids - think about something greater than yourself, think outside the box.

They just take the "think outside the box" thing a bit too far sometimes (Jaden's skirt, etc.)

I thought the problem lies in the whole switch of the routing of the water system. They routed it thru a different pipeline for money. All they had to do was switch it back but it's corruption and greed why they haven't done so yet.

So why clean the dirty source that they are getting it from when they can easily switch it back to the Great lakes?

Am I off or misinformed?

I thought the water damaged the city and house pipes already and so the problem isn't just the water the pipes are? And the reason the cost would be so high is that all the pipes for each home and the city itself would need to very replaced?

Don't believe water can have residual damage to pipes. What it's done to the people is different. All those kids have lead poisoning, that's irreversible. There was money that was funneled to a construction company, with many political palms that got greased, to build a new water system, when nothing was wrong with the old one at all. They were getting water from the great lakes and it was a great water source.

Politicians saw a way to get kickbacks and had a company say they were going to fix the old water pipes, temporarily diverting the source of water to the rivers that are contaminated.

I thought all they had to do was switch it back. But I don't know why they just can't do that. Wish I could find the video explaining what I saw in Flint. They showed Trump was even part of it, b4 he was prez.

Switching it back how ever many months later was too late. Without the anti-corrosive agent added to the water the pipes were permanently damaged. Which begs the question, what the fuck does that liquid do to the human body?

From
https://www.thoughtco.com/lead-in-water-pipes-4018249

" Old lead pipes are not automatically a health threat. A layer of oxidized metal forms on the pipe surface over time, preventing water from directly contacting the raw lead. By controlling the pH of the water at the water treatment plant, municipalities can prevent corrosion of this oxidized layer, and even add certain chemicals to facilitate the formation of a protective coating (a form of scale). When the water chemistry is not properly adjusted, as the case was in Flint, lead is leached out of the pipes and can reach consumers’ homes at dangerous levels."

So once the pipes are damaged they have to be replaced. There was some debate about whether the internal plumbing in residents homes needed to be replaced as well since a large percentage used copper and newer ones use pvc.... However, residents don't trust anything the city has to say on the matter and believe its in their best interest to have all essential plumbing replaced.

Also the corrosive water fucked up the home appliances as well.

Props to Jaden bringing a water purification system to the church. Every little bit helps.

Many more people should have been indicted over this fuck up.

They switched it back but it had already destroyed the pipes. So with the original water supply they are still getting lead because it's leeching from the pipes.

The water was too crossive for a car manufacturer to use, who was allowed to switch back, but they thought it was still ok for people. SMH.

OK didn't know. But they did say in the Michael Moore flick how the car company had been routed back on the old pipes. Was about politics.

In shock the water is that corrosive to destroy systems. Terrible

I haven't seen his movie, but the water didn't contain the lead, it damaged the pipes causing it to leech and it was too late to stop it once it changed back. They knew it needed the additive, but we're trying to save money. They knew it was a problem and tried to silence people who found out.

I know folks get tired of hearing about voting all the time, but Flint had their representation taken away. When people don't have the power to choose who is in charge (or in the case of non voting folks, don't exercise it) then you get people in charge not looking out for your interests.

The GOP in Congress completed their investigation, but didn't recommend any jail time.

That's what I was telling Mixd. The pipes are damaged that's what the problem is, it's not as simple as just changing your water supply.
