What do you mean that won't help them out of poverty? People have been helping themselves out of poverty for ages. What the fuck kind of self-defeating attitude is that?

It's a message board that people rely on to stay up-to-date and knowledgeable about current events.
This thread is viewed as one of the best in BGOL history because it provided people with information.
Once the thread got overtaken by trolls and those arguing with them, the thread went down hill FAST.
If folks want to discuss something, they can start their own thread or post in just about any other thread on the forum.
With important topics like this, there needs to be an effort made to eliminate trolls spreading disinformation and discouraging black people from voting. Only allowing certain people to post in the thread would accomplish that.

It's not self defeating at all...I'm convinced you read every other post. I'm sure there are people who have done it but for everyone of those there are people who have tried their hardest and couldn't do it due to barriers and discrimination. I don't care about individual success because that's a product if black capitalism. I'm concerned about the group as a whole succeeding.
I would attempt to get a job and provide for my family. I don't depend on the government because they government doesn't care about black people. Now it could go either way...doesn't change the fact that the same government that put black people in this hole should be helping them get out
You made a broad statement that people trying to help themselves will not help towards getting out of poverty. That's a self-defeating attitude/mindset that helps to keep people in poverty.
You said the government isn't going to help people. So if that is the case, then the solution is for people to help themselves.

Yeah. In reference to King. That social media posting is petty. Call the family or ride out in person. Personally, I'd pulled up to her crib and apologized for any unintended stress and pain. Explain what my ultimate goal and goals continue to be. Even explain what I do with the funds raised and show my results. And if after I've made my attempts to explain with hopes to get mutual understanding and respect; She still doesn't want me to mention her son or when I raise funds I se0nd directly to her account, then so be it.
A lot to unpack with the allegations that BLM fucked up their original plan for justice for Tamir or that Tamika & others ain't breaking bread properly, but I was just recently reading that Tamika hasn't been with the BLM foundation for long.
It's a lot and all of that back and forth on social media is problematic.

I read that a while back. I'll reread again later, but if I remember correctly, Shaun had a rebuttal with what he claimed were receipts. I've never donated to any of his orgs, but I do follow his posts and what appears like his activism. My doubts are rooted in the operations - what does Shaun or his team in fact do? Outside of social media posts for awareness and collective efforts sharing accurate information or changing the minds of how we're viewed generally. It helps. I don't know entirely what else. I do consider those things valuable, since he's become a target of PD unions and others. I will agree that his behaviors or responses when questioned about finances make me second guess things. Fraud is a serious allegation. And so is the impact of no activism.

A Texas man wanted by the police was stopped by the U.S. Secret Service and arrested Wednesday afternoon near the Washington residence of Vice President Kamala Harris, authorities said.
Police found a rifle, a large amount of ammunition and several gun clips in a car belonging to the man, 31-year-old Paul Murray of San Antonio, after he told them it was parked in a garage several miles away near the Washington Convention Center, according to NBC 4.
Also found in that black Chevy Impala was what police called a large capacity ammunition feeding device.
A U.S. Army spokesman confirmed to CNBC on Thursday that Murray served as an unmanned drone pilot from March 2010 to April 2014. He held the rank of Specialist and had no deployments, the Army said.
A police report specified that Murray was in possession of an "AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, 113 rounds of unregistered ammunition, and five 30 round magazines."
Murray was stopped by Secret Service officers at around noon in the northwest section of Washington on Massachusetts Avenue, just outside the Naval Observatory, which contains Harris' residence.
Police said they arrested Murray in response to an intelligence bulletin that originated from Texas.
The vice president and her husband, Doug Emhoff, do not currently live at the Naval Observatory, as the residence is undergoing renovations. The couple is living at Blair House, near the White House.
Murray was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon, carrying a rifle or shotgun outside of a business, possession of unregistered ammunition and possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.
Andrew Leyden, a former Capitol Hill staffer who lives near the Naval Observatory, told CNBC he witnessed the arrest while passing by on a scooter on his way to the Irish Embassy to film a St. Patrick's Day video for his YouTube channel.
"A bunch of cops passed me at the National Cathedral," which is just up the road from the Observatory, Leyden said. "What was really odd was it was marked units and unmarked units."
A video Leyden took of the scene showed Murray surrounded by police, with a bike lying on the grass near them.
"I saw that kind of scraggly looking guy, cuffed," said Leyden, who posted video of the scene on Twitter.
Harris' spokeswoman Sabrina Singh referred CNBC to the Secret Service when asked for comment.

This idea that it will somehow crash the economy is silly. The economy is strongest when it’s strong from the bottom up.
Pay the bottom tier of the economy a living wage, and something amazing happens. They SPEND that money. They spend it not just on the smallest things they are able to afford when they are somehow scraping by, they spend it in the same restaurants, bars, small gift shops, home services like carpet cleaning that most people are wringing their hands over “How are they going to afford it?” They afford it because more people will be able to afford THEM.
Businesses will ALWAYS pay bottom-tier workers the absolute minimum they are allowed to whether they can afford it or not. It’s part of how you run a business, but treating labor like any other commodity creates an economy where the GIGANTIC bottom tier not only can’t afford to participate in that economy, they end up needing social support like food stamps, Medicaid, sometimes welfare. So suddenly the next rung up in the economy is actually paying for that lower rung NOT to get paid a living wage.
It is a fact that the minimum wage has not kept up with the cost of living, and it’s long past time that was corrected.
