Not to say that it was specifically a money grab, but there is one attorney I heard say that the burden of proof 5+ yrs later, going through discovery and then potentially having to testify at trial is more than a lot of women want to go through with.
It's just easier to put the civil threat out there, collect your settlement and keep it moving.
