But I been saying since the days of the invention of the hot take Era journalism is dead. And sadly hip hop media quickly followed suit. This whole thing is a soap opera.
hip hop media never had journalism... just slave masters, role players, vultures, pr and hoes
they were real about the art - and ignored or hyped everything else
Damn. That's an interesting way to break that down. I idolized that og crew and they helped inspire me to write.
they tried to create some sort of solid foundation to a nascent form of media within the culture.
I still feel THEIR blueprint was something we should have fought to maintain as these podcast and videos grew in the culture.

avoided writing on the real business of producing marketing and selling of music
most hiphop writers were no better than the official wwf magazines in the 80s
they reinvented and innovated kayfabe for the hip hop generation - elevated a work to the hip pop that we see today
in other words - there should be a distinction between reading a piece by a creative writer vs a report, or interview from a journalist

I think back in the 90's when The Source first started it was journalism. I think by the time XXL and Vibe started it changed. But you still had journalist involved in it.
