There's a stipulation that people selected must have timed trials. Since her's were voided due to the failed drug test, there would have been some legal hoops to jump through. I doubt they felt it was worth the trouble.
She may be in contention for 2024, but shit happens. Just never know what could be ahead. A pulled hamstring right before the 2024 trials, or maybe a new talent just as hungry and more focused takes her out. Thats why it's so important to secure the bag while you can. She was the "It ATHLETE" for the USA. No one was getting more hype than her. She may still secure money over the next few years. But theres no way she can recoup what she could've gotten being in the Olympics.
Her being an Olympian and possibly bringing home the gold is what made her so attractive to companies. The flash helped make her distinctive, but not enough for them to market her off that alone. Plus she has the stigma of being a "weed head" and thats not gonna do if for major endorsement deals, especially for a woman of color. Instead she talking about the World Championships next year, which is the equivalent of being suspended from the Super Bowl and looking for to playing in the Pro Bowl.
I still see Simone Biles and Laurie Hernandez from the 2016 Olympic team making commercials. Laurie not even on this years team. Even McKayla Maroney from the 2012 team still doing commercials. Being an Olympic medalist in the premier competitions can set you up for a long time.

Shacarri fucked up, not the USA. All the other athletes will still participate and be cheered on. There will be other storylines that will eventually develop and be talked about. The media will probably shift more attention to women gymnastic team. Thats usually a big draw for viewership. No doubt people would've tuned in to watch Shacarri, but life goes on. She'll be left to deal with the hole she dug herself over the next few years. Theres nothing like competing in the Olympics for a track athlete. It takes years of hard work and discipline to make it. And to flush it down for a quick high is unfortunate. Especially when you had a legit shot of bringing home the gold.
She's young enough to have a chance redeem herself in the next Olympics. But one has to wonder if she will have the focus and discipline to get there again. She's already shown that pressure and stress can get to her. We'll see how well she handles being nationally known and all the temptations that come with that. Hope she doesn't pull a Johny Manziel.

it wasn't just that... theres 6 spots on the relay team...4 go to the best times (she would have been locked in if she hadnt puffed) the last 2 spots were picks as the coaches discretion....those spots went to runners who came up second best after the winners...and they were already picked before sha'carri's incident. On top of richardson's time being voided by the suspension...to put her on the team meant bumping someone else...thats not fair. Thats why she was left off.
