So those 2 diss records match the production and lyrical bars of "Like That?"

Not saying Drake doesn't have access to great production and bars...... but so far he hasn't displayed it.

I thought that was exactly what you were doing

i get your point

but I still think the Drake responses were fine.

Drake brings Kendrick on tour.
Drake and Kendrick exchange verses on projects.

2013
  • Kendrick drops CONTROL
  • No one mentioned on CONTROL feels a way except Drake
  • Drake goes on HOT 97 and essentially says Control was a bitch move despite Angie Martinez trying to explain to him that it wasn't a diss. He then said in multiple interviews that the verse wasn't inspiring, it wasn't impressive, it was for clout, and that no one will remember it.
  • Drake goes on ESPN, and according to Marcellus Wiley, he went off on Kendrick on air, dissing him publicly. According to Wiley, Drake's people had that portion of the interview removed from the air.
Drake drops THE LANGUAGE and takes, what many people considered, some stabs at Kendrick

Kendrick spits the BET CYPHER verse taking shots at Drake

Drake pops back with SHIT REMIX

  • A few days after the VIBE MAGAZINE article drops and Drake discusses how CONTROL messed up his album rollout.

2014
  • Macklemore beats Kendridk for the Grammy and posts the screenshot of the text he sent Kendrick saying he thought GKMC should've won. Drake responded in Rolling Stone, "To name just Kendrick? That shit made me feel funny."

Kendrick drops bars about Drake on Jay Rock's song, "Pay For It"

  • Kendrick gets asked on The Breakfast Club and Shade45 if he and Drake would have an all-out battle and he says he couldn't see it since they're two different types of artists motivated by different things -- lots of people heard that as shade.

2015
Drake drops IF YOU'RE READING THIS IT'S TOO LATE and takes shots at Kendrick on USED TO

And 6PM IN NEW YORK with a "Money Trees" reference

Kendrick drops TO PIMP A BUTTERFLY with obvious and not-so-obvious jabs at Drake on King Kunta:

  • Of note, this was released before Meek went on his tirade about Drake having ghostwriters (TPAB dropped in March, Meek crashed out in July).

A lot of people (myself included) also thought YOU AINT GOTTA LIE had shots at Drake as well

  • If you look at both Meg's and Ross' shots at Drake, they essentially said the same things a decade later about how it's known that Drake is a poser who dickeats other sets, hoods, and tries to be cool with the hood.

Drake has more subs to Kendrick on The Game's track 100:

Kendrick throws shots back on Dre's album:

A clear reference to the titles/hooks of Drake tracks from IYRTITL

And:

  • The Six of course being a double entendre of Toronto having the nickname of The Six and Six being the number of pallbearers who carry caskets. The Great White line is also now a bit funnier since Ross been calling Drake "white boy."

2016
  • Things die down a bit and it even seems like Drake may have been trying to squash things by referencing "This Dick Aint Free" on VIEWS

2017
  • Drake drops MORE LIFE.
A week later, Kendrick drops a surprise track, The Heart Pt. 4, and takes shots at Drake:

And:

  • A response to Drake's SUMMER SIXTEEN when he said he used to wanna be in Rocafella then he turned into Jay. Hov and Drake had a little go back and forth too.
  • Kendrick drops DAMN the following month and there are minor subs on there but nothing too scathing.

He does take shots on the Mask Off remix though in direct response to Drake's 100 subs:

2018
  • Drake congratulates Kendrick for DAMN outselling MORE LIFE.
Kendrick slaps away the olive branch though on the track with SZA:

Of note, some folks say this wasn't a response to Drake, just a coincidence.

Drake drops immediately after:

A reminder that Drake put Kendrick on his first tour. The "You and I" line was masterful as well, a triple entendre. You and I regularly, U-N-I as in Uni, the shortening of university, AND U and I, two tracks from TO PIMP A BUTTERFLY.

  • Drake shares old DMs between Kendrick and himself. Some people took this as him extending an olive branch reminding folks how cool they used to be.
Others took it as Drake throwing it back in Kendrick's face that he's the one who put K.Dot on his biggest stages since Drake threw subs again on SCORPION:

Another reference to a TPAB song.

2019
  • Kendrick goes on hiatus
  • Drake, on a rare interview (Rap Radar), says he respects Kendrick (speaking of both Cole and K.Dot).

2020
  • Kendrick still on sabbatical.
  • Drake tearing the charts up.

2021
Kendrick comes back from a self imposed exile (his words -- "SIE") on a track with Baby Keem and takes what many perceived as a shot at Drake:

Folks speculated it was in response to Drake on VIEWS: "Top five no debating... Top five, top five, top five..."

Add in folks were saying Drake slid in Keem's girl's DM which seemed to have been confirmed by Keem:

Drake responds:

Some folks said this is about Kanye though. Could be another two birds, one stone situation though.

He also dropped FORGOT I WAS FAMOUS with Lil Uzi and took shots at Kendrick:

More of the "I put you on" framing and the reference to another Kendrick track, Backseat Freestyle

2022
Kendrick drops Mr. Morale and Father Time had this:

  • Drake drops HONESTY, NEVERMIND on Kendrick's birthday. Coincidence?
  • Drake goes on stage and talks about artists who take "three, four, five years off."

2023
  • Relatively quiet

2024
  • All hell breaks loose

Thank you for the breakdown for those that were uninformed....

Subs been flying!!

*"All the Stars" was a problem for 2018/2019!! A top 10 hit, 2 X Platinum and hundreds of millions of views on u tube!! Lawd

Yeah fam, they've been shooting at each other for years now. Kanye said Drake is the master of dissing people where the public won't know but its intended person will. Kdot is good at that too. To Drake's credit he has extended a few olive branches but Kendrick genuinely doesn't like him.

Good lawd

I got something I was gonna say but like Jermaine imma keep it to myself

That was exhausting but much salute for the research

So much was a reach admitted by the writer themselves. But the brought all the receipts.

I kinda miss the days of just saying F**k so so!

Much easier and less homework.

so okay...

Can we get the Kendrick record now?

Or maybe go listen to that Cole album cause it's not bad.

Kendrick will drop, but it won't be on our time line. He doesn't do social media or care what critics say so he'll probably drop some shit before he rolls out something.

And you're right about Cole, that new project is good. The apology kinda overshined it though.

Yeah fam, they've been shooting at each other for years now. Kanye said Drake is the master of dissing people where the public won't know but its intended person will. Kdot is good at that too. To Drake's credit he has extended a few olive branches but Kendrick genuinely doesn't like him.

After "Control," Drake went on a year plus interview tour talking about how he didn't respect Kendrick, thought he was fishing for a moment, thought he was phoney because (either) a couple days before/ after "Control" dropped he saw K Dot and there was no animosity. ..... etc. I mean dude really said some sideways ass shit about Kendrick...... instead of making a damn phone call and clarifying the situation.

If I were KDot, I'd feel some type of way too. Apparently everyone not named Drake in that verse understood what that verse was.

So nah, fuck his olive branch. This would have all been avoided if you weren't in your feelings and just reached out. Hell Drake is/was so cool with J Cole. Jermaine knew what it was!! I'm sure he tried to tell him. So now lines are drawn in the sand and they have been crossed. It's "go time."

Fuck all that, kdot needs to drop now!! And Cole album was ok. Really just like any of his other albums. Basically ok and borderline boring; which makes his kdot diss sound even more stupid. But that’s Cole for you. And Drake diss were ok at best; majority of what I seen thinks so…

Wait hold on I didn't realize you were on the hurry up K dot side! We on the same side!

Again disagree, this was one on my most enjoyable Cole experiences and I wasn't bored at all love that Cam record. I'm not the biggest Cole fan but that boy is good and gotten better.

And I can find just as many who loved the drake diss (and some love both of them - which I don't agree with)

It's music it's subjective

And sadly or maybe just predictably we will never really find consensus.

And I'm not saying you wrong I'm just saying many don't agree and I'm one of them.

as much as love it's just big me?

I loved I'm the you en oh (which I don't even consider a part of this mess)

And I love metro go play some drums.

So far... drake in the lead and I'm waiting for round 2.

Control wasnt a diss. And Mac Miller, Pusha, Meek, Krit, etc recognized it for what it was, a challenge to his homies to stop bullshitting. Aubrey felt a way. They've been going back and forth since.
I agree wholeheartedly. That’s been his whole angle from the beginning, let’s raise the bar not I want a fade, and his stance hasn’t changed. But he said their names and called them out and challenged them, if u don’t count it as a diss that’s fine. But don’t say he didn’t “say their name” when that’s literally what he did within that very challenge. I don’t get why u tryna differentiate

Again, I never said it was a diss, and I agree that it was a challenge so what’s the point of pointing that out? I don’t get what u tryna accomplish by that. But my point and fact remains he said ALL of their names is a competitive fashion and challenge. What, did it need to be “meaner”?

It was very good I feel like phenomenal is little bit excessive.

Kendrick sounded great that beat was sick (although I keep hearing producers say Metro really didn't do much with the original I disagree)

but I also think the Drake response was very well done too and was not just a verse but a song and it was effective.

So am anxiously awaiting a response from K

NO ONE ELSE.

I've listened to "Everlasting...." numerous times since "Like That" dropped.....mfkrs can't act like Metro straight sampled that.....he didn't. He cut here, toned some sounds down, added a sick ass bass line.....he really snipped and flipped that beat into a monster!

Maybe phenomenal was a bit excessive, however it's the bar Aubrey himself set with b2b....a diss record, that had production and lyrics that is a certified hit song..... that's "Like That." 3 weeks at #1 and in its 4th week still #2 on the Hot 100!!

But Neither of Drake's songs are HITS. "Push-ups" is not on the hot100 and he had to remove that other AI song from platforms.
But even still that was lyrical miracle 8 mile-esque type shit.....not a hit.
Was it creative? Sure, but the beat sounded like some shit Dre made while comatose in his hospital bed..... and Aubrey can only blame himself. He set a certain bar with b2b, (and truthfully, Duppy Freestyle didn't meet it, but he needed bars against Pusha)....
