You're right but there's several factors that are leading to more rappers dying.
First, they're really in or were in the streets and aren't rappers in the typical sense. For the most part rappers back then were just rappers.
People who could rap, had talented and wanted to make music.
Now it's gang members and those in the street who see music as a hustle to make money or to talk shut to rivals.
Usually the rappers dying have real beefs and they're actually what they rap about.
Oh and everybody's a rapper!
