X-Men ’97 creator Beau DeMayo was reportedly fired from the series ahead of its March 20 Disney+ debut, per The Hollywood Reporter. DeMayo’s company email was deactivated and the cast and crew of the show were told DeMayo wouldn’t be involved with the project moving forward, according to a March 12 report. DeMayo will not do press for X-Men ’97 or be involved in future seasons, according to Variety. The writer already completed work on a second season. Disney+ did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
DeMayo, who previously worked on Marvel projects including Moon Knight and the ever-delayed Blade, has also deleted his Instagram. The reported firing came one day before X-Men ’97’s Hollywood premiere. The upcoming series is a continuation of the ’90s X-Men: The Animated Series. DeMayo’s inclusion on an X-Men project was particularly exciting because he is a gay, Black man heading a series that not only deals with outsiders on the margins of society but is also often overtly homoerotic. X-Men '97 creator unexpectedly fired a week before series premiere

Beau DeMayo had been attached to the project since November 2021, but he's since deleted his Instagram account and canceled his press plans.

One week before the highly anticipated animated series X-Men '97 is set to arrive on Disney+, creator and showrunner Beau DeMayo has been fired from the project, EW has confirmed.

The Hollywood Reporter was the first to break the news, at which time DeMayo, who's been active on social media promoting the sequel to X-Men: The Animated Series, deleted his Instagram page. EW has reached out to representatives for DeMayo and Disney for comment.

It's currently unclear why the exit happened, seemingly so abruptly. DeMayo, who was announced for the job in November 2021, told EW earlier this year that he was already well into work on a second season. He has since completed work on season 2, although a renewal has not been formally announced by Disney and Marvel Studios. DeMayo was also scheduled to conduct additional interviews with press to promote season 1 of the show, which is premiering March 20, but he's since been removed from the media rotation.

X-Men '97 picks up where X-Men: The Animated Series left off in the 1990s. DeMayo had expressed his connection to the themes of found family and discrimination that are so prevalent in X-Men stories, having grown up as gay Black man within an adopted family.

"It's always interesting to take Xavier's dream and turn it on its head," he told EW in setting up the show. "When I first came to this, I was thinking about what the world of the '90s was like, even issues of social acceptance and what does it mean to be different? It was so much more simplistic than it is today. [The X-Men] spent years telling humanity to embrace the future, walk into the future together. What happens when they get hit with a future they didn't see coming? What does it feel like to be on the other end when you feel like that future is leaving you behind?"

An ensemble of veteran and newcomer actors are populating the cast, from Cal Dodd as Logan/Wolverine and Alison Sealy-Smith as Ororo Munroe/Storm to Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey and Theo James as an undisclosed fan-favorite character.

Apparently he also got fired from the Netflix Witcher show..... The common denominator is him.....
To be fair, it could be the other reason Cavill abruptly left the show. I know it was also around the time he thought he was legit about to return to playing Superman again. Regardless, it seems he waited until after the gig was up, before he started talking about it. However, this thing with Disney....:smh:

Nah different circumstances

This specific situation doesn't look good at all and along WITH the past Witcher stuff is giving him a troublesome resume.

Fucking up the bag with Netflix AND Disney.....regardless of the circumstances being different, the problem may very well be him.

X-men was homoerotic?

No it isn't but

I think to be generous they are referring to the acceptable non-judgmental theme of the x men

Many mutants are gender fluid and completely deformed disfigured and nontraditional physically so I can understand why they would be seen as high example of LGBTQ+ ideals.

What people forget is that the X-Men officially debuted in 1963 in Marvel Comics.

Jim Crow was still fully active in the country and the X-Men debuted a year before the Civil Rights Bill was signed in 1964.

The original premise was “Mutant” was a metaphor for “Blacks” along with other minority groups at the time that were discriminated against in the US.

It’s why the X-Men comics generally appealed to non-white children in America. It was easier for them to relate to the characters with how they were treated in society.

Adding the LGBT into the stories today should not be an issue when dealing with the X-Men.

Whoever this cat is that got fired from Disney, good chance it has nothing to do with him being LGBT, good chance this mofo did something that could bring heavy legal action against Disney.

Disney just decided to get ahead of the situation before it exploded like a Nuke.

Whatever he did will eventually come out.
