Deadpool Creator Rob Liefeld Is At Peace with That ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Joke

Marvel's business affairs unit called the writer-artist to let him know that a shoe store would be named after him (a jab at an internet joke about the way he draws feet): “I was laughing hysterically."

A few years ago, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld ran into Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige at San Diego Comic-Con, where he got a tantalizing tidbit about the then-mysterious Deadpool 3.
Feige told Liefeld that his desk was currently covered with the writer-artist’s work, specifically the Deadpool Corps – a team of wacky alternate reality versions of Deadpool, including the canine Dogpool and the female Ladypool. That was Liefeld’s first inkling that such characters could pop up in what is now known as Deadpool & Wolverine, which features a breakout character played by Peggy, a Pug-Chinese Crested mix who previously won Britian’s Ugliest Dog Contest.

“You can’t resist the lure of Dogpool,” Liefeld recalls thinking after that chat with Feige. “I feel like Dogpool is the next level after Groot and Rocket Raccoon. And I even said, ‘The merchandising on this alone is worth doing it for.’”
He got another clue a year ago about Deadpool & Wolverine, when Marvel’s business affairs unit called him to let him know of an easter egg referencing him. In one scene, there’s an orthopedic store called Liefeld’s Just Feet — a nod to an Internet joke that mocks the way Liefeld draws feet.

“I was laughing hysterically when the Marvel business affairs people called me,” says Liefeld. “They were laughing too.”
The joke follows Domino (Zazie Beetz) making a reference to Liefeld’s feet drawing abilities in Deadpool 2 (2018), and the creator himself sitting at a bar in the 2016 movie that kicked things off.
He recently traveled to New York to watch the new film at its premiere, taking in some sights and lodging down at the Langham New York Fifth Avenue Hotel. For Liefeld, Deadpool & Wolverine is a high point for the character, and comes at a noteworthy time for his decades-long relationship with Wade Wilson. The movie coincides with his retirement from writing and drawing Deadpool with one final book, Deadpool Team-Up, which starts rolling out next month.
“I have nothing more to say with the character,” says Liefeld. “This last adventure that I’m doing with him is so out of left field. It’s the farthest thing from me trying to be cool. It’s the farthest thing from me trying to make him pop. It’s just a weirdo story and I feel like it’s the right kind of vibe.”

Just came back from seeing it...it was more of DP running his mouth but otherwise it was entertaining. No need to see it again any time soon...

Once the cameos were revealed and it obvious they weren't there just to die, I wanted Deadpool to shut up and give more scene with the other characters.

But I tell you what, once it sank in that this movie was a send off to our youth's Marvel films I had to just let what I was watching happen.

I felt like telling the young folks y'all should thank us for what we went through so y'all get spoiled like they have with the shit past Ironman. Spiderman had that feel to with the three Spidermen, but we were in the trenches before that.

I love that they reference the Punisher. Because you know it was Dolph Lundgren, Ray Stevenson and Thomas Jane versions. Let alone the Ben Affleck version of Daredevil. Hell there are no live media versions of characters off the table for who could have been there. Just a nice way to tie everything in.

That variant Wolverine sequence was wild.

And fucking Blade! They fucking gave us the original Blade again before the new movie. That Blade thread is gonna be the death of us. Lol.

Took a lot of pride to make that cameo happen. I had to read about how it even came about.

I finally got around to watching the bootleg of this movie last night
I might be in the minority on this
But for real, I wasn't really feelin it quite as much as everyone else
It was almost like watching Marvel's version of "Coming 2 America"
Throw in a bunch of cameos from Arsenio, Eddie, Wesley, etc, etc
Then add a bunch of jokes & just improvise the rest of the paper thin script
Deadpool was much funnier though
But I got the same kind of vibe from watching those two movies

This Deadpool movie was basically just a bunch of cameos, a bunch of white boy humor, & a bunch of F-bombs
I feel like this is more for hardcore comic heads who can appreciate every single cameo & easter egg
I'll admit at times I was cracking up & thought some things were pretty cool & funny
But other times I was literally bored out of my mind wondering when this shit would be over
Because a few scenes seemed to drag on a little too long
I would probably grade this movie somewhere between a 6.5 -- 7.0 out of 10
Maybe I'll give it a second look when a clearer copy with surround sound, comes out :dunno:

When you dudes watch those shitty ass cam versions with your phone and other distractions, do you ever think that maybe it's fucking up the movie experience

The opening credits in IMAX was dope....

It was a swan song to Fox. I didn’t expect they honestly. Seemed like Disney got it worse than Fox did they roasted the shit out of Disney all film long.

I never got bored once but I enjoy the movie experience though so maybe watching it on bootleg I’d feel different.

One thing

Sabertooth and Juggernaut deserved better

I would have taken less of the one of the other fight scenes to show those
Letting one of them die like that I could live with but they really could’ve done more with one of them. I’d say probably do the joke shit with Juggernaut and give Wolverine a showdown with Sabertooth.

Naw this is real shit. The living room will never take place of cinema. Just can’t.

Yeah I feel that this movie NEEDS the theater experience to be better/good
Because the story is kind of.....meh.....whatever
Now with the bootleg version on the internet, the picture quality is decent
But the audio quality sounds "hollow", not in stereo or surround sound
So maybe I'll change my opinion once a better copy drops :dunno:

I watched the cam copy and I'm glad I didn't see this in a theater. This shit ain't ever seen a joke it didn't want to run into the ground. Some parts were legit lol funny, but even those went on too long.

And I don't f'n think Joe f'n Pesci dropped this many f'n f bombs in mf'n Casino & Goodfellas combined.

I watched the cam this afternoon after seeing it in theaters Thursday and I couldn't make outa bunch of the dialog. I'm sure the cam watchers missed a lot.
Anyone watching the bootleg, you didn't watch the movie properly so your opinion is shit.
Wait until it comes on streaming and watch it.
Watch some other shit on streaming in the meantime.

Me and the fam caught it Friday, the cam I found today surprisingly was crystal clear with good audio and no ads. These MF ain't playing with it anymore when it comes to some movies.

If it didn't have a clear picture and audio there's better out there, especially on private torrent sites. Watched a cam and I forgot at times it was a cam, I don't need the theatre to know if I like a movie or not, to me that speaks more against the movie then for it, back in the day I use to watch shitty New York Bodega cams of dope movies and enjoyed them. If it's good, it's good.
