They can easily do a solo film on her. She has enough written content to make a few films. They can use this to introduce other characters as well.

Right now there's a race to put out a super hero movie with a female lead. Disney/Marvel has an upper hand with Black Widow deeply entrenched in the MCU.

There is no race, Wonder Woman will be here next year.

Marvel won't release Captain Marvel unil 2019.

But Marvel basically has a whole TV show revolved around Daisey "Quake" Johnson and one Netflix show around Jessica Jones.

And DC has that shitty Supergirl show.

Meh, I wouldn't be interested. Hell, Thor got two solo movies and none seem interesting to me, why do they think Black Widow can hold down a franchise? I think Marvel will water down their product by giving every Avenger a solo movie.

I should have clarified more. There is a race to capture more of the female demographic to these movies by the studios. That's a lot of untapped cash that they want.

You are correct on all accounts. Marvel has pushed female leads to the forefront on the small screen and has done well. I had chicks that no nothing about comics talk about Jessica Jones.

If they can capture that interest/new fan money onto the big screen they'll be sitting on even bigger piles of cash.

One thing I know business is that I never project what can and cannot make money based on my tastes or preferences. As you said the young women/millennial market is a burgeoning one and they are smart to move forward with superhero movies that will attract this market - look at the Hunger Games, the Divergent Series, even the dreadful Twilight - strong young women that are heroic make a boatload of money - I might not like it but Marvel/Disney would be stupid to leave money on the table because some fanboys might not like to see 'girls' in a superhero movie.

At this point they just fucking with DC's emotions.. This is clearly a dagger at the Wonder Woman film. Black Widow cant carry a film alone. It will be more espionage thriller than comic flick.. and im not sure thats the audience they wanna target. But, they can afford the investment with the other cash cows they have on deck.
You're so wrong.

If it takes place in the MCU, I'll be there. I don't care what genre the movie is. I think they need to start shaking things up a bit anyway and branch out to other genres.

all they gotta do is give the nod to the writer and director of winter soldier to make the black widow movie and that shit will be fire...i don't even care for chick flicks like that but the black widow character actually has been cool... don't make it all girly and keep it action pack and smooth like winter soldier and dat shit will be hot..especially if u go into her grimey pass..this shit will sell cause of girl power, comic book fans, marvel fans, and all the cac males that love sj..that shit will be a hit... more winter soldier type films less campy bullshit

Nah. It was absolutely a super hero and comic book flick. No doubt about that bro.
that shit was diff from all the other marvel flicks..every other flick was all cartoony and campy..winter soldier was like a spy movie that had nigs with extra powers..that shit was wayyyy better than all of the other marvel flicks

It was different in that it was a better film in every aspect. I still consider it a comic film first tho.

well if they made black widow similar it will sell
But a key component to these films is the lead characters abilities and storyline... She has zero special abilities and her storyline is one of communism and espionage . Its different man.. And its not like theres a sci fi or outer space backdrop to assist matters. It will be in a real world setting... I wouldnt pay to see it.

they got tech, fighting skills, guns ,fast pace working on their sides with her... u can easily make this an action pack spy movie.. u won't see it but a bunch of people will.. i wouldn't go see sheets moviing, weird noises, same ending in a movie but yet paranormal activity has like 6 yes 6 fucking movies that pretty much made 9 figs a piece..if people will pay to see that shit they'll see a black widow spinoff hell antman made 100 mill for christ sakes

Antman fits the formula tho (super power, suit, special effects, storyline, etc). BW doesnt.

Hey man, maybe it will do great.. Ill wait and see. Wont be checking for it tho. Also no coincidence they start these talks with a Wonder Women film on deck.

Marvel’s Standalone ‘Black Widow’ Movie Gains Momentum With Jac Schaeffer Writing

Marvel is finally pushing ahead with the highly anticipated “Black Widow” standalone movie starring Scarlett Johansson, with Jac Schaeffer penning the script.

Sources say this is still very early development, as the film has no greenlight, but naming a writer is the closest the studio has come to moving forward on a standalone pic. Marvel President Kevin Feige met with several candidates before tapping Schaeffer, and Marvel execs met with Johansson to discuss what they wanted from a “Black Widow” writer.

Schaeffer is an up and coming scribe who broke out with her Black List script “The Shower,” a comedy about an alien invasion during a baby shower which caught the eye of Anne Hathaway, who quickly attached herself to star in the pic.

Hathaway was so impressed with her work that she soon tapped Schaeffer to write “Nasty Women,” a new female-centric take on “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” that also stars Hathaway.

Marvel had no comment.

Fans of the character have been pushing for her to get own movie since she first appeared in “Iron Man 2” and with the latest phase of Marvel films coming to a close, Marvel saw this as the best time to move forward with the project.

Johansson has appeared as the character in six films, the next one being this summer’s “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Schaeffer is repped by Verve and Writ Large.

Marvel’s Black Widow Movie Reportedly Targeting 2020 Release

A new report suggests that the potential Black Widow movie may release in theaters in 2020. Marvel Studios is finally moving forward with the standalone film starring Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, after years of discussing its possibility. The studio recently hired Blacklist and Olaf’s Frozen Adventure scribe Jac Schaeffer to pen the screenplay for Black Widow, and Schaeffer is reportedly looking to meet with Johansson soon to discuss the particulars.

Black Widow is one of the MCU’s original superheroes; Johansson made her debut as the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent-turned-Avenger in Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2. And while audiences have been waiting years for Marvel to give the character her own solo movie, the studio constantly danced around the subject until finally putting it into development last week. Unfortunately, there’s no guarantee that the movie will happen, but it seems that the studio is hoping to release the movie within the next few years.

Daily Mail reports that Marvel Studios is planning on releasing the Black Widow movie sometime in 2020, which should be doable considering that the script is already being worked on. Of course, the next step would be selecting a director and then a production team. And the film would need to go into production in 2019 in order to make one of Marvel’s three mystery 2020 release dates.

At the moment, the only MCU movie slated to release in 2020 is James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a release frame the director hinted at in summer 2017 and then recently reaffirmed. Since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opened in May 2017 and performed exceptionally well at the box office in that frame, Marvel may want to release the upcoming sequel in May 2020. That means, if Black Widow does indeed release in 2020, it will either hit theaters in August or November. Seeing as Doctor Strange released in November 2016, it’s possible that Marvel would want to release Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange 2 in November 2020, which leaves the unclaimed August release for Black Widow.

Again, the Black Widow movie is still in the early stages of development has not officially been given the green light from Marvel Studios. If the movie does happen, though, and if it manages to outperform virtually every other MCU movie thus far by grossing more than $900 million globally, Johansson is expected to earn quite the payday. But, it doesn’t have to release in 2020 for that to happen; it can also hit theaters in 2021. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Nah. I'm good. Might be the first marvel movie I skip and not because she's a woman. I plan on seeing Captain Marvel. But I cannot sit thru a movie where a woman beats the shit out of every person she encounters. I've seen it too many times. If she had powers, yeah, but this is just gonna be another version of Salt and a bunch of other movies.

My hope is that they make this a prequel and show her back when she was a Spy for Russia...

I don't care that Jennifer Lawrence is making that Black Widow knock off called Red Sparrow............. I want to see two movies of Nastasha being a spy and through her introduction and Redemption by Nick Fury. I've always wanted to see that moment when the worlds greatest spy (Nick Fury) convinces Russia's Deadliest assassin that's she is on the wrong side. There's alot to Natasha and the Black Widow program that I wanted to see.

It looked like Agent Carter was setting that shit up for Season 3, but sadly we will never know.
