Cobra Commander is going to fill that terrifying helmet with sweat, running between G.I. Joe battalions trying to take him down. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures and Hasbro are developing yet another G.I. Joe movie based on the popular 1980s toy series, with a script by Andre Nemec, screenwriter behind Mission Impossible — Ghost Protocol and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, and Josh Appelbaum.

The Hollywood Reporter also notes that if your favorite G.I. Joe character was the wise-cracking, Hawaiian-shirt-wearing covert operative Chuckles, you’re in luck, as he will be making an appearance in the film. This movie comes in addition to the previously announced G.I. Joe spinoff Snake Eyes, which is based on, you guessed it, the character Snake Eyes.

Honestly, the best director for a G.I.Joe movie is ironically Michael Bay.

I actually think a much more SERIOUS version would work

or

they gotta go Fast & furious with it.
shouldn't be a movie
Fast & Furious is pure shit now
I would do it as a PG13 series on stream or Cinemax or FX

think Strikeback meets Mission Impossible with rotating team members and team leaders depending on mission and story
2 part episodes - each episode focuses on different scenarios
-anti terror / SWAT / rapid response / hostage rescue
- covert strike / renditions / sabotage
- counter intelligence
-heist
- Storm Shadow / Snake Eyes quest for vengeance & back story eps
- training episodes with team members embedding with and training with GSG 9, HRT, Delta, Spetsnaz SAS etc
- episodes focused on Cobra Commander pre terror history, Destro etc and or highlight various dysfunction within Cobra -
- Make Cobra Commander a Pink Panther like homage to Peter Sellers... infuriating to Cobra and GiJoe alike

BOOM..

I thought about that later...

Strike Back is a PERFECT example.

and you can add the cartoon tech thru Mission Impossible.

Netflix NEEDS that series on there platform cause off top I can't think of one like that on there.

but the BIG QUESTION is this...

who do you get to show run it?

Jonathan Tropper (Banshee)? Joss Whedon crew? Jack Lothian (Strike Back)?

Cause that BALANCE is tricky?

New G.I. Joe Spinoff Movie in the Works From Paramount, Hasbro (Exclusive)

This one will make you chuckle.

The job is never done for the real American heroes.

Even as they work on Snake-Eyes, Paramount and Hasbro have thrown into development another movie project based on the G.I. Joe toyline.

The companies have Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, who wrote the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies as well as Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol, writing a script for what is described as an ensemble piece.

One of the characters in the currently untitled project is said to be Chuckles, who has not appeared in the previous Joe movies. While he is not the center of the film, the project is in deep development and things could change.

Chuckles is a character from the 1980s line of action figures who first debuted in 1987 and in the beloved Marvel Comics that same year in issue #60. The character is known for his undercover and infiltration work.

Joe, after The Transformers and The Lego Movie franchises, has been one of the more successful toys-to-screen adaptations, with two movies under its belt. While the brand has cooled in recent years, moviewise, Paramount is in the process of redeveloping it not with just a mainline team movie, but with various spinoffs focusing on key characters. Snake Eyes is in preproduction with an Oct. 16, 2020 release date.

Appelbaum and Nemec are best know for their television credits, having worked on Alias and as co-creators on a slew of shows such as Life on Mars and Zoo.

Their work on Alias and Ghost Protocol did feature plenty of spy craft and undercover shenanigans, making them a natural for the project in the eyes of execs. They are also working on Rainbow Six, the Tom Clancy-based anti-terrorism thriller set up at Paramount with Michael B. Jordan producing.

The pair is repped by WME and Sloane Offer.

Oh, right, this was a thing.

Six years have passed since the Real American Heroes known as G.I. Joe were on the big screen, but the wheels continue to spin. We’ve known that a Snake Eyes solo film has been on the table for a while, but now a new ensemble film is being developed in the franchise.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Paramount and Hasbro have hired writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol) to write a new G.I. Joe movie.

Little is known about it outside of it being “an ensemble piece,” but the report did reveal undercover operative Chuckles (aka Philip M. Provost) is expected to be among the group. Previously he had only been seen in 1987's animated G.I. Joe: The Movie. THR writes, “While he is not the center of the film, the project is in deep development and things could change.”

G.I. Joe: Retaliation is so good we should all pretend the first movie doesn't exist

Of course, describing a G.I. Joe movie as “ensemble” is fairly basic. The cartoons, comics, and movies have all been that so far. The entire point of the franchise is that it’s a group of highly trained soldiers fighting against evil. In fact, the only thing surprising about this is that it’s taken so long for it to happen. Both recent G.I. Joe movies—Rise of Cobra in 2009 and Retaliation in 2013—made over $300 million worldwide. The latter even had Dwayne Johnson in it. So it makes sense that Paramount would want another film with such a marquee name brand.

While not this film, that’ll happen soon enough. The Snake Eyes movie, originally scheduled to come out in March of next year, is expected October 16, 2020.

A new G.I. Joe spinoff movie is in the works
A G.I. Joe’s work is never done, as a new shared universe spinoff is in development, this one featuring Chuckles.

Yo, Joe, you got more fight in you, you know? And knowing, as they say, is half the battle. The G.I. Joe franchise may not have transferred to screen as smoothly as Hasbro’s other popular toy line, Transformers, but it is still kicking along after 2013’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation, with one spinoff in the works for next year centred on the character of Snake Eyes. Now The Hollywood Reporterrevealed late Friday that Paramount Pictures is developing a second mysterious G.I. Joe spinoff.

What is currently known about the project is that Paramount has tapped Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec to write a screenplay for the new picture. The pair have a friendly history working on franchises for Paramount, having previously contributed to the script for 2011’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Nation. More recently, however, they wrote both 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot and 2016’s Out of the Shadows sequel. They’re also attached to the 2020 Snake Eyes spinoff, which is working under the current title of G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant. And while the central character of this second spinoff is unknown, the G.I. Joe character Chuckles is reportedly attached.

Chuckles first appeared in Marvel Comics’ G.I. Joe #60 in 1987 after appearing in the Hasbro toy line the same year.

This points to Paramount and Hasbro being keen on continuing to develop a shared universe around the G.I. Joe brand. While it is unclear if it is set in the same continuity as their previous 2009 and 2013 movies, both of which featured Ray Park as Snake Eyes, the fact remains it’s a popular intellectual property that is quite literally based on Marvel Comics’ SHIELD. In the modern day and age of constant superhero movies, it’s understandable to return to the well and try to get it right. The last two movies, which are not viewed as great movies or great hits by any means, still made over $675 million worldwide between them. Imagine if they got it right?

The Snake Eyes movie is, meanwhile, slated for release on 23 October 2

NEW G.I. JOE SPINOFF MAY REVIVE CHARACTER WHO'S BEEN UNDERCOVER SINCE '87

Unless you dove deep into the comics or collected every toy in the G.I. Joelineup back in the day, you may not be familiar with one of the series’ more interesting good guys. But, thanks to a reported new G.I. Joe spinoff movie in the works as part of Paramount's franchise reboot, those days of being in the dark may soon be over.

Via The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount and Hasbro already are deep in development on yet another G.I. Joe film, in addition to the already-announcedSnake Eyes movie from The Time Traveler’s Wife director Robert Schwentke. And while the new spinoff reportedly isn’t being written to revolve solely around him, the underappreciated undercover specialist Chuckles (aka Phillip M. Provost) will reportedly make his first on-screen appearance since 1987’s G.I. Joe: The Movie in the upcoming ensemble film.

In many ways, the new spinoff may be an opportunity for a re-introduction of sorts for Chuckles, a character whose lone screen appearance diverged significantly from the version fans know from the Marvel and IDW comics. On paper, Chuckles is a confident, good guy with a strong personal code that favors the mission first and always — and he’s willing to play the long con game, especially with Cobra, to win trust and unearth nefarious plans.

chuckles-in-cobra-gi-joe.jpg

Contrast that with Chuckles’ strong-but-silent role in G.I. Joe: The Movie, which gave him no speaking part and instead opted to treat him as a one-man wrecking tank for the home team. We don’t know if the new spinoff has plans to task Chuckles with more berserker badassery (like one-punching three Dreadnoks into oblivion), but here’s hoping the Little Rock, Arkansas-born covert ops pro gets plenty of fleshing out as Hasbro and Paramount look to breathe new life into their real American Heroes.

The new movie reportedly is being scripted by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, both writing alumni of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies and Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, as well as TV’s Alias. The pair also are working in similar military-thriller territory with an upcoming Paramount movie based on Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six.

The untitled G.I. Joe spinoff comes a little more than a year after our first news that Snake Eyes is getting his own standalone movie. Ray Park last stepped into the role of the gun-toting ninja back in 2013’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation, though it appears he won’t be reprising that role in what producer Lorenzo DiBonaventura described to /Film late last year as a Snake Eyes “origin story.”

There’s no early word on a release date for Chuckles’ return to the screen alongside his patriotic pals — so now’s the time to drag out those comics, rewatch those movies, and maybe even check out the awesome G.I. Joe toy-themed episode of Netflix’s The Toys That Made Us for a quick crash course. As for Snake Eyes, he’s set to stealth into theaters on Oct. 16 of next year. Yo Joe!

New ‘G.I. Joe’ Movie In the Works Featuring Everyone’s Favorite, Chuckles

The Hasbro Extended Universe continues to grow over at Paramount. With the studio still hard at work developing the G.I. Joe spin-off Snake Eyes with director Robert Schwentke, THR reports that another slice of the Joe-niverse will come to life in a yet-untitled project from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles writing duo Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec. (The pair also penned Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, easily a top 3 entry of the franchise imho.) Outside of calling it an “ensemble piece”, the report couldn’t confirm much plot-wise on the film other than the fact that the character Chuckles is involved. The movie isn’t about Chuckles but woo boy, Chuckles is gonna’ be there, G.I. Joe-in like only Chuckles can.

For anyone trapped under a freakin’ rock unaware of the icon that is Chuckles, my dude first appeared as part of the toy line in 1987. Real name Philip M. Provost, an Arkansas native, and the original owner of that shirt David Harbour wears in Stranger Things season 3, Chuckles is a former member of the US Army’s Criminal Investigations Division specializing in intelligence and undercover work, proving the age-old adage that nobody second-guesses a man named Chuckles.

This new line-up of films marks Paramount’s revived attempt to bring a G.I. Joefranchise to life—the iconic toy line also had a long life as an 80s animated series—following 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and the 2013 sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Both movies performed admirably, taking in $375 million and $302 million worldwide, respectively, but interest waned because of, as audiences put it at the time, a distinct and frankly disrespectful lack of Chuckles. This is true. Everyone was saying it.

Maybe some old school comic book heads can help me out here, because I swear I'm drawing a blank on this Chuckles dude, and they seem really intent on me being hype about him showing up. I'm all for a character coming out of the woodwork, but it's a weird one to spotlight in an announcement.
