MOVIES ~ Any of ya'll seen any good (or shitty) movies in recent weeks/months? Post reviews, feedback, movie news, trailers, recommendations, etc ...

We watched about 3/4 of it so far yesterday. Plenty of notable names in the cast. Gonna finish watching it soon.

Been enjoying The Righteous Gemstones (HBO - 2 episodes in so far). Finished the Yellowstone season finale (Paramount).

Yellowstone is incredible. Costner in western mode is always a win win The Righteous Gemstones I literally yelled out OH SHIT at the end of episode 2
I forgot the gorgeous Cassidy Freeman was on Smallville

Yes - Costner definitely does well in the western genre. He’s proven himself over time. Good show. That was a good twist on Gemstones’ 2nd ep. That actor had a good role in the movie Booksmart. Watched that movie a few months back.

Since it was back in theaters celebrating 20 years

AMC A List and Dolby, I said what the hell. It was either this or Killerman, so I decided to go with what I knew I would like

Movie aged even better to me. Of course the CGI would be better now, but as far as the actual movies, it's still one of my top movies.

Just caught this on Netflix. It's a concert/ semidocumentary on TLC. This was alright. The only new info they had. Was they(tboz and chilli) admit their not the best singers. If you're a TLC fan I would recommend watching this. It's only a hour long.

Thanks for the info. I will keep an eye out for it ^

What's with these movies with white dudes and black women...getting tired of it.

Even in Good Boys the white kid was after a mixed black girl.

Also there's a lack of ass in the movie...four chicks without bodies. One girl even makes a joke about Jamie's daughters ass being big....where?

It was cool, enjoyable like Crawl. Don't expect a good story, it to make much sense or dialogue, just enjoy the sharks and killing. I liked it better than the first one, the first one I found rather boring like it could have been a TV movie.

Mortal Engines

Cities on wheels devouring other cities on wheels....uhmmm ok

PRAISE: I finally got around to watching this movie. It actually isnt half bad.It has your basic revenge story as a foundation.Roving cities consume other cities thousands of years into the future as Hester Shaw pursues the man who wronged her years before Thaddeus Valentine, Deputy Lord Mayor, the insane archeologist and power-hungry Head of the Guild of Historians
The movie is visually stunning and each character and setting is more interesting than the last.
There are numerous great action sequences.

PROBLEMS: The movie is to bloated. To drawn out and the script isnt strong enough to support the weight of the running time.Several times i thought this would have worked better as a series.More character developement ,more time to actually explore the settings in the film and the people.

I think the movie could have survived being a box office bomb if it had not been released at the same time as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and The Mule which drew away the attention from the film with their appeal to various age groups.

The Fanatic

I............WHAT IN THE WORLD ....WHY?

PRAISE:An autistic and then some guy named Moose is obssesed with action/horror movie star Hunter Dunbar and will do anything he can to get close to him.
I give John Travolta some credit for fully commiting to the role and providing unintentional laughs.

PROBLEMS: It's laughable how some characters expected the child like Moose to behave himself socially.
I dont know where they found the "actors' for this because they are all equally horrible.
Every scene is laughable with GIGANTIC plot holes.Im telling you the plot holes in this stinker will blow your mind.
This is the blueprint....handbook on how to make a horrible movie.
Shame on " director' Fred Durst for self promoting himself in the movie. This is a movie in which characters have no common sense ,cops and security barely and i mean barely exist !!

I want people to see this because i want them to be as aggravated, amused and pissed off as i was watching this

Hustlers

Been awhile since i've been to a strip club so ladies......THANK YOU

PRAISE: Based on the front page $135,000 stripper scam story i went in with low expectations ready to write this off as a silly romp, even though i read a few quick quotes praising the movie and hey i was pleasantly surprised.
Jennifer Lopez is incredible in this and im not just talking about her mesmerizing pole dancing in the film, the lingerie she wears in the movie, the sexy dresses she wears in the movie,the....uhmmm err where was i....oh yes Lopez in her best film role since 1998's Out of Sight. In the film she's
Ramona the godmother of strippers.Lopez portrays her to a T.Easily shifting from loving and helpful to cold as ice.

Constance Wu is great too as Dorothy
a.k.a. Destiny trying to make her way on the strip scene to care of her grandmother and pay for college. It took me a few minutes to recognize that she is the same actress from Crazy Rich Asians...maybe because i felt that film was a bit over hyped and was used as background noise by me.
The friendship between her and Ramona felt very believable .I was so invested in it seeing its evolution was one of the most watchable things in the film.
Keke Palmer got the biggest belly laugh from me and
and Riverdale’s Lili Reinhart was quite funny too
Cardi B and Lizzo turn in memorable cameos.
It's always great when a cast looks like they're having a good time.
When Wall street takes a hit in 2008 it also hits the strip clubs in which brokers would drop huge amounts of cash so the ladies hatch a scheme to maintain the flow of cash and this is where the film displays the tug of war between self preservance and morality in a great way.
I appreciated the balance of humor and drama.

PROBLEMS: The male characters are one note. This one was abusive, this one had problems, this one is a jail bird and thats about it.
The film had a chance to flesh them out more especially with Frank Whalley's character but it's completely missed.
The shifts in tone felt a bit disjointed at times.

Fun...raunchy....sexy.....with heart

I liked it, but the ending sort of sucked. It was mad anti climactic.

The acting and story were pretty good until the end, ironic they mentioned that with one of the characters. Pennywise went out way too easily. There is no way he survived for centuries. I was like, this is it? The acting and how they synced the characters with the child actors sort of covered the part of the movie I didn't like.

J Lo looked like a good actress

The soundtrack/music was good.

The Lizzo shit was pointless...I don't want to see her fat ass in any strip club I'm in. I guess some dudes like fat chicks. But what was it for? Laugh at the fat chick?

It was a cool caper movie. The interview shit sort of killed the pace of the movie. It was better than I thought it was going to be.

A couple of the white strippers had fat asses, all the tits were fake. J Lo has a nice body for her age.

Mortal Engines? I was talking to a sci fi geek co-worker and we were saying how we saw what they were doing with Mortal Engines, but they blew it. If they split it up it could have been so much better. They tried to cram so much in one movie. I sort of liked it, because I like those types of movies.

Fanatic? Where do I even begin. It's like a TV movie, but John Travolta is trying to win an academy award or some shit. He seemed hyped, I'm going to finally be recognized. But did he read the entire script? Did he think it was going to be a good movie? I don't know if it's him or the movie...but it just adds how over the top the shit it is. The shit is just weird like he's mocking autistic people. Between this and where he played Gotti, I'm wondering what movies does he reject. It's one of those movies you watch because of how bad it is, it entertains. Gotti was bad and not entertaining, this was bad and entertaining.

The whole time I'm like just sign his fucking vest. That takes 5 seconds, instead you're spending all this time being a dick to him, and don't you realize he doesn't have it all upstairs?

Rambo: Last Blood
Man On Fire, Taken, Death Sentence, Death Wish or the Punisher, yes you have seen it before its a revenge movie. The action is fun and thats the reason why you are watching, but its Sylvester so you already know it will have some slow scenes and for a 90 minute movie there is no time but action. When Rambo gets going he goes all out and with a R rating, when he kills he kills.

Would of been best as a straight to DVD or NETFLIX, absolutely not worth a theatrical release. But if you have A-list go and enjoy. For a Friday morning the theater was half full so he has a following.

Did he smash Carmen(Paz Vega) he was mad close to her?

Caught this documentary with some fam' last Sunday. It's an easy watch at just over an hour & 20 minutes.

Rambo :gun03:

The last 30 minutes. :gun01:

I was like a kid watching that

Granted it's MAGA approved and the plot is basic as hell, but the payoff of the kills. :gun06:

Have about 10 minutes left in this documentary. It's an easy one to get through at just over 1 hour in running time. The doc' explains the shootout, his drug addiction, etc. Interesting how he landed the breakout role in A Bronx Tale back in the day. Some good interview segments about 30 - 40 mins in with Drea de Matteo (The Sopranos) explaining how she recognized he had a problem (given her own drug addiction history). Also, Jayson Williams (formerly of the Nets) talking about how they ran in the same circle(s) on the eastcoast (the star player and "it" actor), and the night-day change in Lillo once the drugs kicked in. The paranoia, etc.

Rambo: Last Blood

Rambo: The Force of Freedom......yes i watched the animated show...when i was a child !!

PRAISE: Sylvester Stallone struck a few emotional chords in a few scenes in the movie as Rambo is now enjoying a quiet life on a farm, working horses and looking after his "niece' Gabrielle (Yvette Monreal) and her grandmother.
But when Gabrielle doesnt return to Arizona after going to Mexico and crossing paths with sinister characters the old Rambo comes back full throttle.
The action was intense and brutal as Rambo sets up hyped up and deadly Home Alone traps that cause all types of bodily harm.
At times it's extremely over the top but i enjoyed it but be warned it's not for the faint of heart as henchmen are completely obliterated !!

PROBLEMS : Extremely predictable and cliched script .As soon as certain characters were introduced ,and without them speaking a word i knew what they were all about.
I have to admit i couldnt understand what Stallone was saying a couple of times.

But if you're a Rambo fan this is a must see !!

Ad Astra

Brad goes to outer space to look for his dad.

PRAISE:As Roy an elite astronaut Brad Pitt turns in an incredible performance.Aman wanting to hold on to his relationship but so focused and extremely dedicated to his career so of course the relationship suffers as we are shown in some great visuals.
I also enjoyed the work by Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland, and Ruth Negga in the film.
Director/writer James Gray & Ethan Gross wonderfully weave a futuristic story that is haunting, truthful, poignant and intense.
There is a quiet chaos that surrounds the film coupled with mystery as Roy searches for his father who vanished on a space mission 20 years earlier.

PROBLEMS: The pacing in the film goes from slow to slower.Especially in the films last 30 minutes.Long and lingering scenes that definitely could have been cut to a more digestable size.

Stunning to take in but it's a film you definitely have to be patient with

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

Looking forward to seeing this movie in the months ahead. Limited release thus far, but has received strong reviews. Some friends of the fam' checked it out on the big screen just over a week ago & said it was very good. Solid cast ...

Watched the first hour of Crawl last night. Enjoyable so far ... easy to get through too as it's under 90 mins, and gets into the plot/story quickly. Minimal filler.

Seeing this after seeing Travolta in The Fanatic is crazy.

It really will put in perspective how good of an actor Phoenix is. Travolta was never believable, it was laughable. I was laughing at Travolta trying to pull off an autistic person and felt guilty doing it. Where as Joaquin morphed in to the role.

I didn't feel he was sympathetic like some. You felt sorry for some things that happen to him, but you recognize the crazy. There was only three people who you can say, yeah they deserved that.

People are also looking too deep in to it as far as violence. This was mild as far as violence. Some of it was even implied instead of shown. Hell I thought The Fanatic was more brutal.

I want to see it again, because sometimes I see stuff differently or it further justifies how much I like a movie.

But this was just a good movie, outside of being in a comic book movie. It just happens to be a comic character. The cinematography, story and Joaquin's acting.
