Funny story for you.

Had a couple of casual staff come in for orientation shifts last week. One guy who came in Thursday morning was in his late-30s or so. Turns out he grew up in the neighborhood (East Vancouver) and I had family there as a kid, so I knew the area well.

We started comparing notes about the favorite hangout spots as kids and teens, lol.

Had a good laugh about a local mini mall there which was 2 levels and had various restaurants, convenience store, bakery, grocery, video games, and a REALLY big video store (before the days of Blockbuster taking over). Then Blockbuster set up shop a half block away some years later.

Anyway ... his words ... "Yeah man ... that video store was SOMETHING ELSE! I mean ... a huge store ... various theme sections for genres of movies ... and shit ... even that ADULT SECTION was themed! I may or may not have frequented that spot as a kid. I'm just saying ..."

Me ... "Man ... look who you're talking to!"

The 4:30 Movie

PRAISE: In this movie Kevin Smith helps us recall what binge watching was in the late 1980's. I used to call it surfing. Pay for one movie and go watch about 3 or 4 other movies for free. I remember actually being thrown out of a theatre after paying for Total Recall once but watching it four more times, until an usher finally caught on. Smith taps into those kind of memories filled with nostalgia and that's when the movie worked for me. The cast and characters are charming enough there's : film lover Brian David (Austin Zajur),ladies man Burny (Nicholas Cirillo), nerdy Belly (Reed Northrup)and the lovely Melody (Siena Agudong) who Brian adores .There's a lot of fun dialogue about Iconic characters, movies, and celebrities. Smith definitely infuses a lot of his love for movies into the film. He also gets the teenage vibe right particularly about hanging out with your friends all day but really looking forward to a date with a girl you care about later on. There's a host of guest stars that make cameos that were fun to see for the most part. Smith tried his best to avoid getting an R rating for the movie but I can definitely see why it couldn't get a PG-13 stamp.

PROBLEMS: Some bits in the movie go on far to long, and they are repetitive. So much so they become painfully unfunny. One character has a couple of funny lines but then just becomes extremely annoying.

Never Let Go

This movie about a family of three unnamed mother (Halle Berry) and her two sons, Nolan (Percy Daggs IV) and Samuel (Anthony B. Jenkins) starts off well enough because I wasn't even sure what type of foundation the film was building on. The family stays tethered to their home which is powerful enough to stop the "evil" that might take them over. All three leads do well as trust, what's real, and haunting imagery are intertwined with their performances. When the music plays during certain scenes it brought back great memories of several haunting movies ive watched over the years. I could see the biblical nods which i liked. Unfortunately after 20 minutes it becomes very predictable and I started to think Director Alexandre Aja and writers Kevin Coughlin and Ryan Grassby are fans of a former film that plays out in a very similar way and wanted to remake it but with more horrifying imagery. This film had to many dull moments for me and what actually kept me watching and entertained was my desire to see if the predictable turns would play out.

3.5/10

I’m stuck down here in South Cali at a dock. I’m a day late for a live on load so they have me on call. Gotta wait while they take care of all the scheduled appointments today before they get to me….so I decided to watch a flick saved on my tubi account.

The last time I watched this flick was on VHS back when I was in the ARMY in the late 80s. It’s considered a sleeper, cult classic and was released during the end of the 70s blaxploitation era.

I will say it does a decent depiction of showing mofos with no fighting skills in fight sequences thru-out the film. Usually with films they have a fight choreography director, watching this film it’s pretty obvious they just let the actors go at it. It does add to the realism.

The film has a unintended “Gay” vibe to it. There is a number of scenes with the men topless and oiled up, it’s supposed to be sweat, but these cats look like they are at a Sean Combs “Freak Off” party.

For the Gay Agenda Trackers, in addition to the above, there is an openly gay BM character who is seen through out the film. Other gay BM characters are shown. Nothing sexual is shown.

After watching this flick, I was reminded on why I never watched it again. tubi has a clean copy.

tubi has “Penitentiary 2”, Jayne Kennedy co-stars, so I’m gonna have to watch it. HaHa!!!

Synopsis

Hitchhiker Martel "Too Sweet" Gordone (Leon Isaac Kennedy) gets a lift from prostitute Linda (Hazel Spears) in her van and travels with her to meet her clients. After a fight breaks out with the men, Gordone is knocked unconscious and awakens to find he has been wrongly charged with murder. As a way to protect himself in prison, Gordone starts fighting other inmates. This leads him to discover an underground boxing tournament, with the top prize being a prison release.

What best summarizes this movie. As the movie ended and the credits started rolling. It came on the screen, dedicated to my wife...

Someone in my audience said, "he must really hate his wife" :roflmao: The people in the audience reaction to this movie was actually more entertaining than the movie and some of the scenes.

This shit was pointless with great actors.

This is a movie you walk out on, but you're so stunned and confused you stay to see if it gets better.

and damn it, Giancarlo's wife...Nathalie Emmanuel's mother is so fuckin old looking. She had her at 50? She looks, like 90.

I'm not sure what Shia Lebouf was doing. It's some funny dialogue and scenes, but I'm not sure if they were meant to be funny. That shit was so over the top. It was like he was in a different movie.

They need to keep Francis Ford Coppola away from a directors chair and he just set whatever money he put into this on fire :smh:

I wish I saw this after Megalopolis to wash that shit out of my system.

This was just entertaining...Francis Ford Coppola seemed to have forgotten that :dunno:

I hate CGI blood, and it was pretty John Wick inspired, Mantis was sort of wack, movie was predictable and sort of campy....but it was still entertaining.

The movie is filled to the brim with fun BHC nostalgia and call backs. It was fun to see the characters of Foley Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) still in contact and circling each other.
Murphy still has it and of course he slips right back into Foley's Detroit Lion's jacket with ease, with the mannerisms, perceptiveness and snark intact. The production value of the movie is great and i can tell Netflix definitely didnt cut back in that area. While the callbacks are fun i was glad the movie didnt rely on them.
