Watching this movie was like watching 3 raunchier, beyond quirky and head scratching episodes of The Twilight Zone and at times that worked for me . I praise all of the actors including : Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Mamoudou Athie, Joe Alwyn for truly giving their all in the 3 oddball stories. I did enjoy a lot of the crazy visuals and the beyond dark humor placed in each story. I liked that i was thrown off by something that i thought a character was talking about or referring to. Some parts are about love and dedication and being able to tell what's happening to your loved one, other parts are about the limits of love and dedication and giving into dedication even though it could lead to something sinister. Director: Yorgos Lanthimos takes some "real" life situations and puts crazy spins on them which helped me to not get completely lost in some of the story threads.Where the movie falters for me is how robotic it is at times without any real emotion coming from the characters or performances. This movie is definitely not for everyone but if you are looking for something different this is the one.

It had several strong performances which was imperative, due to the small cast and the movie being pretty predictabel. I was impressed with the kids, because they could have really ruined the movie. James McAvoy did a good job. He does crazy good, this is sort of like his role in Split.

It did a good job with the writing, because you got the proper tension, which stopped the first act from being boring like in the Crow. It was a good hour of lead up until it gets going. Before that it just gives you hints of what's to come.

Damn the dad was a pussy :smh:

The why was a little glossed over and rushed, so I would have liked more background.

This is good with a crowd, because of the what the fuck are you doing moments. Entertaining movie. I'm going to try to check the Danish original this weekend.

I watched this one this afternoon at home on Paramount+. I watched and reviewed the first one earlier this month in this thread.

Like the first, I never saw this in theaters and saw it when it was later released on VHS when I was in the ARMY. I have only seen it one time when I watched it on VHS back then.

This film plays out a little better than the first. Eddie is more comedic in this film with his familiar, loud mouth antics. Eddie debuts his iconic Detroit Lions jacket which has been synonymous with his Axel Foley character. The Axel F song is used extensively in this film unlike the first.

Brigette Nielsen co-stars and she was in her prime when this film was made.

A number of recognizable B-List actors co-Star in the film in stereotypical roles for the era, when Buddy Cop films dominated the box office. Chris Rock, Gilbert Godfrey and Tiny Lister have small cameo’s.

Like the first film, majority of the film is just mainly talking mixed with Eddie’s comedy. The last 20+ minutes it kicks in with some action. The film also has a good soundtrack of recognizable songs from the 80s. Sylvester Stallone films and Playboy are referenced throughout the film.

I will get too Part 3….at some point…

Synopsis

The hard-nosed Detroit cop from the original film returns to Los Angeles to help solve another case. This time he must direct his efforts towards unravelling the Alphabet Crimes, a series of robberies committed by leather-jacketed punks. The investigation puts him on the trail of an illegal arms dealer and his hit lady.

Thanks for the review!

Yeah - lemme know what you think of the original too. I enjoyed that one except for the ending. Didn’t really care for how it wrapped up.

Ortega and other actors have spoken up recently about the uncomfortable auditions they were put into as young actors. Anne Hathaway, for instance, told V Magazine in the spring that chemistry tests have come a long way since her auditioning days in the 2000s.

Back in the 2000s — and this did happen to me — it was considered normal to ask an actor to make out with other actors to test for chemistry, which is actually the worst way to do it,” Hathaway said. “I was told, ‘We have 10 guys coming today and you’re cast. Aren’t you excited to make out with all of them?’ And I thought, ‘Is there something wrong with me?’ because I wasn’t excited. I thought it sounded gross.”

“I was so young and terribly aware how easy it was to lose everything by being labeled ‘difficult,’ so I just pretended I was excited and got on with it,” Hathaway continued. “It wasn’t a power play, no one was trying to be awful or hurt me. It was just a very different time and now we know better.”

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
2024

4.5/10

I watched this one last night with my sons on MAX.

Not much to say, being the premise has been a done a zillion times since the 1930s in Hollywood films.

This is a prequel/spin off film from Tom Hardy’s “Mad Max” film. It basically is set up as a separate franchise.

Nothing spectacular about it in its presentation. It does loo good visually with outdoor shots.

The best scene is with the big War Wagon tanker midway thru the film. Chris Hemsworth is the main bad guy and his portrayal of the character was annoying to me cuz of the style of voice he used for the character.

Overall, it’s mindless entertainment. It’s a “See It Once, No Interest In Watching Ever Again”.

Man, the mom and dad are even bigger pussies in the original. They just gave up instead of fighting like their lives depended on it. :smh:

The mom had a little common sense in this one.

This is a rare instance where I liked the remake better than the original.

Civil War
2024

7.5/10

I watched this one this afternoon at home on MAX.

The film is in an alternate reality where a Civil War breaks out in America in the near future. The U.S. is led by a Facist President. From what is shown of him, he doesn’t come off like “Trump” or are there references made to him in the film.

Not much is told on what kicked in the war, but it’s implied it’s based on what is going on in the political climate in recent and today’s domestic issues

The film does a good and decent job of providing imagery and subtle visuals of what a Civil War would look like if it actually happened in this country today. It does it without being preachy but it is effective in its presentation.

Imagery and visuals are pretty much copied from around the world where there is wars and civil unrest in foreign countries. Americans are used to seeing these images on their evening news and take it as “ It’s happening over there, who cares”. This thought process is presented in the film very well.

The film has a unique soundtrack using music from a variety of genres. The songs chosen for perfectly with the scenes they are played with.

This is definitely a must see film for people who ignore current domestic politics, people who have fantasies of civil unrest in this country and those who are only interested in their self interests and not the country.

It isn’t a comfortable movie to watch. Majority of folks watching it will go into it thinking it will never happen. If you are one of the people who thought Trump had no chance in winning back in 2016, you definitely are the person this film was made for.

There is a still picture shown at the start of end credits which displays a interesting message.

Synopsis

In a dystopian future America, a team of military-embedded journalists races against time to reach Washington, D.C., before rebel factions descend upon the White House.

I watched this one this afternoon at home on Netflix. I originally had no interest in it from watching the trailer. It seemed predictable. Since it’s been getting raves by critics/viewers, I decided to watch it.

The first hour plays out pretty predictable. The premise has been done a zillion times in Hollywood since the 1930s. It was used extensively during the Blaxploitation era also.

After the first hour, the film goes into a completely different direction with the main plot. The films pace somewhat drops. A couple times I had to rewind cuz I was spacing out while watching it.

Suspense thru-out is pretty predictable with no big surprises.

It falls in the category of “Watch It Once, No Interest In Watching It Again”.

Synopsis

A former Marine confronts corruption in a small town when local law enforcement unjustly seizes the bag of cash he needs to post his cousin's bail.

I watched this one earlier tonight on Paramount+. It’s a post-apocalyptic Sci-Fi thriller.

The film is fully explained within the first 15 minutes, from there it pretty much plays out predictably until the end.

Not much for suspense or action.

The film maintains a steady pace from start to finish, that’s about the positive thing about it. SFX/VFX depicting the deteriorating conditions are not impressive.

Watch if you ain’t got nothing else to watch.

Synopsis

Maya and her young daughter, Zora, are forced to live underground when Earth is left uninhabitable due to a lack of oxygen. When a mysterious couple arrive and claim to know the fate of Maya's husband, she tentatively agrees to let them into the bunker. However, mother and daughter soon find themselves in a fight for survival when the truth about the strangers comes to light.

Praise : These days or maybe it's always been the case people are suspicious of a stranger even stopping them to ask for directions out of fear of what it might lead to. Not so with the The Daltons – father Ben (Scoot McNairy), mother Louise (Mackenzie Davis), and daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler) who are originally from the United States but are now living in London. London. Now Paddy (James McAvoy), Ciara (Aisling Franciosi), and their mute son, Ant (Dan Hough), friendly enough British travelers so why not go to their home for a visit. I like the way the story sets up the slow reveals, through mannerisms or the sudden roughness of a character which mainly comes from another great McAvoy. He portrays Paddy as charming so much so he gets characters to do what he wants even though they are dead set against it. Sometimes it's that oh I'm just trying to be helpful manipulation and my family identifies with so much about your family and the lure is hard to deny. There are some great scenes as situations play out and are well acted as to what Paddy is really up to. There are obvious signs that something odd is going on but the film has already sold me and the Daltons on the ok they're just different bracket. Then when things become to creepy it may be to late.

PROBLEMS: I felt some portions of the movie became predictable especially when there is a visual reveal and there was still about 40 minutes of the movie to go.I couldnt get on board with a couple of things that played out,so much so i almost yelled out just let it go !! Then it falls in to the basic thriller lane and it's likely why some people prefer the 2022 Danish version of the same name which I have not seen but very curious to check out the differences.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 7½

The Killer's Game

This is a live action cartoon about an assassin living his best life, falls in love, thinks hes dying sets himself up to be taken out but guess what he isnt really dying none of this is a spoiler because it was all in the trailer. But definitely a cartoon. From the cartoonishly written characters and the blood soaked way some of them are taken out. But fortunately four actors make a good portion of the film watchable: Dave Bautista,Ben Kingsley,Sofia Boutella and Terry Crews.
I had fun watching some of the action sequences even though I could tell when a stuntman was standing in for Bautista for one of those sequences. I did laugh at some of the one liners and I actually bought into the romance in the movie. But this is a quick action romp nothing more nothing less. The kind of movie you watch on a plane or a night when your plans get canceled. Order a pizza and sit back and take in the silliness.

2024

4.5/10

I watched this last night on the road.

It’s basically a supernatural thriller with a premise that has been done before.

M. Night Shyamalan‘s sister, Ishana Night Shyamalan directed it. She has the same filming style as her brother. The difference is she doesn’t seem to be into way out in left field scripts, that try to throw people off towards the end, the way her brother is known for doing.

Not much for suspense in this film, but just enough to keep you watching the screen to see what happens.

Not a complicated story and you should be able to figure out what is going on soon after Dakota meets the people in the woods who explain what is going on.

The film somewhat ends for a potential sequel.

Synopsis

A 28-year-old artist gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. Finding shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are stalked by mysterious creatures every night.
