If you are having a good first date there's usually good conversation over a good meal. Some flirting and charm, kiss good night and the are you home safe let's do this again call but not so for Violet (Meghann Fahy) and photographer Henry (Brandon Sklenar) as they get pulled into something sinister. The charm and thoughtfulness of the date is intact and I liked that it started to blend with a Hitchcock vibe,as i tried to figure out why Violet was chosen to be tormented and threatened while on the date. Both actors do a fine job as the scenes and date becomes more tumultuous. Even a few of the obnoxious moves a person can bring to a date was infused in their scenes together. Even when I tried to pick apart a few things in the films first hour like asking well why doesn't she do this or that but her tormentor had her pretty much covered so I went along with it as the film was still remaining on a suspenseful path. The visuals are interesting and on point as the torment continues.

PROBLEMS: There are a couple of time out let's explain things moments that didn't blend well with all of the suspense that was great in the first hour. I think the tormentor could have made a couple of moves to get what they wanted instead of choosing such an elaborate route. The climax was very basic.

Warfare is a 2025 war action film written and directed by Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland. Based on Mendoza's experiences during the Iraq War as a U.S. Navy SEAL, the film is a re-enactment of an encounter he and his platoon experienced on November 19, 2006 in the wake of the Battle of Ramadi.[4] To maintain historical accuracy, the film's material is exclusively taken from the testimonies of the platoon members, and is presented in real time beginning from the title drop. It stars an ensemble cast that includes D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai as Mendoza alongside Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett, Joseph Quinn and Charles Melton. The film is dedicated to platoon member Elliott Miller, played by Jarvis, who lost his leg and voice in the incident.[5]

Warfare premiered at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago on March 16, 2025, was released in the United States by A24 on April 11, 2025, and pending release in the United Kingdom on April 18, 2025. The film received highly positive reviews from critics.

Checking this out now

Warfare was great
I definitely recommend seeing it at the theater
Intense, realistic, war movie

Thanks JD.

I haven't seen Warfare yet, but have listened to the reviews on how intense it is. Have you seen the following movie? I recommend this one as well. Saw it a handful of years back ...

The Outpost is a 2019 American war film directed by Rod Lurie, based on the 2012 non-fiction book The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor by Jake Tapper, about the Battle of Kamdesh in the War in Afghanistan. It stars Scott Eastwood, Caleb Landry Jones, Orlando Bloom, Jack Kesy, Cory Hardrict, Milo Gibson, Jacob Scipio, Will Attenborough, and Taylor John Smith.

It had its world premiere at Thessaloniki International Film Festival on November 2, 2019. The film was scheduled to premiere at the 2020 South by Southwest Film Festival, but the festival was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was released via Premium VOD and in selected theaters on July 3, 2020. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, with praise for the battle sequences and respectful depiction of the soldiers.

Background

In 2006, PRT Kamdesh – later renamed Combat Outpost Keating – was one of several U.S. Army outposts established in Northern Afghanistan. Located in a remote valley surrounded by the Hindu Kush mountains, the base was regarded as a deathtrap; the troops stationed there faced regular Taliban attacks, culminating in one of the bloodiest American engagements of Operation Enduring Freedom. The film tells the story of the 53 U.S. soldiers and two Latvian military advisors who battled some 300 enemy insurgents at the Battle of Kamdesh.

Sinners

First, make sure you stay for the mid credit scene. The end credit scene wasn't really necessary

Ryan Coogler showed what a great filmmaker he is. The story itself was interesting before the vampire aspects is added. It does a great job of character development. Also, it's basically a musical with how much blues is intertwined.

Delroy Lindo is so underrated. The guy who played Sammy did a great job for his first movie. Michael B Jordan also impressed me.

I'll probably go see it again in IMAX, but the music makes me want to see it in Dolby.

Hopefully it does well, the IMAX and Dolby for later were pretty packed, so hopefully we support it.

The Lord of the Rings
1978

5.5/10

My DVR is programmed to record anything from cult animator Ralph Bakshi. I reviewed one of his films earlier in the thread titled “Coonskin”. My DVR recorded this film from TCM back in December 2024 and I watched it last week when I was home.

I was never aware of this film. When I saw it on my box, I thought at first it was the animated film “The Hobbit” which I last saw back in the 1980s on TV.

The film is based around the novel of the same name along with some details from the 2 follow up books.

I will say that you will need to do a brain dump from what you saw in the live action films, this film closely follows the live action films, but there are a large number of differences. I have never read the books, but from what I saw in this film, I highly suspect Ralph followed more closely to the books than what they did in the live action films.

The animation looks rough, which gives it a “Independent” feel. Parts of the film are filmed where live action is shot, and the film is drawn over to make it look animated.

It is the film from the books that Ralph was able to get done.

Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) voices the Elf, Legolas

It’s an entertaining film, nothing spectacular.

Synopsis

This animated film by Ralph Bakshi presents the first part of J.R.R. Tolkien's renowned fantasy tale. The wise old wizard, Gandalf (William Squire), entrusts the young hobbit, Frodo (Christopher Guard), with a magical ring. Soon dark forces are after Frodo, so he must leave his peaceful home and travel to the ominous Mount Doom, where the ring must be destroyed. Accompanied by a trio of hobbit friends, Frodo is also aided by the mysterious Aragorn (John Hurt) and other heroic allies.
