NBA playoff ratings showed signs of life on Sunday, but the overall trend remains downward.
Through Monday, 27 of 32 NBA playoff windows have posted a decline in ratings and/or viewership. That includes 23 games that have declined double-digits in one or both measures, and 24 that have hit multi-year lows.

Stats dont lie, this playoff lacks exciting storylines and LeBron's star power. None of the other superstars engage casual fans, and if cats cant troll Bron they dont really have interest. This year's Finals will be the least watched since the Magic-Lakers Final 10 years ago, watch. Its the main reason the NBA will look different after this summer with all the movement because as is people arent watching.

I would hold off on this declaration until the second round. Every series promises to be great in the East and West. I don’t blame people for not wanting to see Orlando, Brooklyn and Detroit, or Houston shit on Utah. Even the Denver/San Antonio match up is boring for the casual fan.

The 1st round had a lot of sleeper matchups. The 2nd & 3rd round will bring in more viewers with more competitive games.
You might be right about the finals though. I do believe that if the Bucks face the Warriors, it will be a competitive series which people will watch to see if the Bucks can take down the champs.
I think a good series with Giannis vs the Warriors is the best case scenario for the league.
An isolated single year-to-year comparison does not say all that much.
I dont see a small market like Milwaukee, led by a non-American drawing a huge national viewership in the Finals. But we'll see. I also think if the Dubs blow out the Rockets or win easily in Game 1, people will think "more of the same" and tune that series out as well.
