This thread is the second in a 2024 series revisiting Mt Rushmore selection, following the 2024 Point Guard Mt Rushmore. A position Mt Rushmore has been assessed every five years on BGOL beginning in 2014.

The 2019 BGOL Shooting Guard Mt Rushmore was Jordan, Kobe, Wade and Iverson.

Five years before that, the 2014 BGOL Shooting Guard Mt Rushmore was Jordan, Kobe, West and Iverson.

For 2024 Sam Jones and Bill Sharman, who received a combined 0.6% of all votes cast last time, will be dropped from consideration. In their places we will have Manu Ginóbili and Jimmy Butler, slightly edging out Demar Derozen.

Disagree with those options? That's why other is a choice. Post who your other is if you vote that way.

James Harden at 5% is the worst thing about the 2019 results. He should be in the conversation.

@KingTaharqa made a very good Harden > Wade argument recently:

Harden has had a much better career than D. Wade. Numbers don't lie.

Wade regular season averages (1054 games):

Harden is a better scorer, playmaker, rebounder. The gap in their offense is wider than the gap in their defense. D Wade was never MVP of the NBA he had a 2 year window of 1st team all NBA play, but Hardens run has lasted longer and he did more in the playoffs despite less team success. Trust me, this won't be difficult for fans in the future to decide, you're being a homer for Wade. He barely won 1 playoff series without Bron or Shaq as his teammate. Harden taking teams to the 2nd round and WCF for over half a decade was more impressive.

James Harden at 34:
17.7 points
8.3 assists
5.1 rebounds

1.1 steals
0.9 blocks
44.7 FG%
40.8 3PT%
19.4 PER
.683 TS%
7.4 WS
3.5 VORP
16 double doubles
1 triple double

Clippers are 37-19 with Harden as their starting point guard. Harden wasn't even selected as an all star reserve.

D Wade at 34 (2016 season):
19.0 points
4.6 assists
4.1 rebounds
1.1 steals
0.6 blocks
45.6 FG%
15.9 3PT%
20.3 PER
.517 TS%
4.9 WS
2.2 VORP
2 double doubles
0 triple doubles

Heat went 43-31 in games Wade played. He made his last all star appearance as a reserve that season.

One plays with much higher expectations than the other and has been a much more productive star, try to guess which one.

I don't think "a shooter" and "a shooting guard" are the same thing. He has been voted onto the Mt Rushmore twice so obviously most disagree with you.
This is a name recognition thing. If you set perimeters a good chunk of the names would just disappear as if Thanos came through.

If you’re talking about shooting, why isn’t Joe Johnson on this list? Where is Rudy Gay on your list? Shit, where is Demar Derozen? There are shooters who are effortless at this game.

I'm talking about the shooting guard, not necessarily just shooting.

Your question is specifically addressed in the OP.

The options are finite, only can name so many.

"Where is Rudy Gay?" :rolleyes::cmonson:

:hmm:

It's a rolling reassessment, I think it's interesting comparing the 2014 and 2024 lists.

Not so much this position because there are no new entrants but Steph was not in the conversation in 2014 for point guards. Oscar Robertson has dropped some, John Stockton a ton. How does Jokic change the dynamic with centers? That's not an overdone conversation at all.

I came in hot lol I'm just over how often NBA discussion comes down to comparing across generations, goat conversations and of course kingtashithead ruining any and all NBA threads with his Kobe slander and LeBron worship

Carry on lol

Is this concept more to your liking?

It's across generations but divorced of reputation.

For me it was

MJ
kobe
Wade
klay

AI was a technically a point guard. James Harden played no defense so he can’t be on my list.

If it was about pure scoring then he would

Jerry West should be in the top four . Older players did not last long in the NBA like they do now until Kareem made everyone realize nutrition was important
