Neil deGrasse Tyson doesn’t buy UFO sightings, alien abduction stories

In fact, it’s fair to say there is only one living astrophysicist who could sell thousands of tickets at the Fox Theatre: Neil deGrasse Tyson. And he’s there for one of his many themed shows, this time focused on intelligent life beyond mere earthlings. The show is 3 p.m. Sunday, March 10, with some tickets still available starting at $59.50. (It’s also part of the two-week Atlanta Science Festival.)
“In my show, you’ll learn the ingredients of life on Earth are the most common ingredients in the universal, and life is particularly opportunistic about this,”
He is also skeptical of traditional UFO and alien sightings and abduction stories over the decades. “I’m not convinced by what people put forth as evidence for that,” he said. “Those sightings were more frequent before we had high-resolution photos and videos. If they were real, we’d have video by now. We have none. Sure, there are witnesses.
He thinks there’s still a chance a private company might eventually turn the moon into a viable tourist attraction many moons from now, but it would be mighty expensive.
I just wanted to highlight some of the criticism about NDT that is kind of featured in this article.
NDT makes a lot of money talking about the basics of physics to crowds. $60 is an awful lot for a speaking engagement on top of it being a separate part of a main event (ATL science festival).
NDT is very self promoting.
NDT is very dismissive of a lot of evidence.
When did he become a photography expert or was it ever his hobby? Did he consult a expert for that opinion. Or did he just pull his opinion out his ass. iPhones and Camcorders are to very different devices.
The aperture of the lenses and focus capabilities of both devices are very different. Does Neil know the strength and weaknesses of both?
NDT promotes Private Industry getting space (tourism) money.
Just because he's black doesn't mean he's not full of shit. If he knows what they aren't then he should at least give counter evidence as to what they are.
He can't use any theories to explain any of the documented behaviors. So if you ask him a genuine question at one of his conferences it gives him the license not to have to give contrary evidence.
NDT is not Carl Sagan. Sagan was a lot more respectful of UFO people because he was an actual researcher who had witnessed a lot of phenomena.
NDT is a hustler he makes a lot of money being an expert at how the Universal works. If something comes along he can't explain, he going to lose money not looking like the smartest guy in the room.
I agree with him about TH but I will have to disagree about Alien phenomena because I don't think he's forthcoming with what he knows.
But he has to stop acting like he's a photographe/engineer and knows everything about cameras and technical hardware. I bet his ass can fix 95% of the shit he uses on an every day basis.
That doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's talking about but I hate him being so condescending
I guess the US, Canadian, and Mexican armed forces are all wrong while NDT has some type of data that all these organizations aren't privy to.
If he was more respectful and transparent on the subject then I could respect his opinion.
