They use whatever will get them the most money. The Lakers have always had better odds than they should because of Vegas proximity to LA and the LA transplant fanbase there, in addition to the national media conversation.
It’s based more on the response to First Take than what actual insiders think. Football lines are not literally casinos predicting the Chiefs will win by 14, they adjust based on how money comes in and how developments impact what remaining money will come in. They are not polling voters or calculating who they think will actually win these awards.

Lines change a lot more based on wages placed than "voter feedback"-- There are like 100 voters, they are not surveying all of these people for feedback or monitoring their podcasts. They care about the information that will shift opinion and that's how they make their money.
My main point was that it is foolish to assume that Draymond is likely to win DPOY based on being #1 on the Polymarket betting line. He is by far the most well-known, the only one of the faces of the league in contention. You hedged big time by responding I should apologize if he finishes top 3. I think most voters know he should be top 3 so that's an entirely different conversation. I am simply pointing out that one should not take betting lines as an indicator of where voters stand and I stand by that.
