He's a solid top 75 player, but not in the same tier as someone like Luka. Interestingly, the Lakers' defense has improved, not declined, in AD's absence, which is counterintuitive. While statistically he's considered a strong defender, I believe he's overrated in that regard. I suspect his fear of re-injury causes him to play too cautiously in the paint. With players like Jax stepping up, their increased activity and fearlessness are generating more defensive disruption against top offenses.
