Dear Lamar Jackson,
A letter from Baltimore.
When you run out of that tunnel, you’ll hear 70,000 people screaming your name. For every person in the stadium, there’ll be hundreds of thousands more from Baltimore to Dundalk to the Chesapeake. There’ll be millions across the country and across the world too. This may feel like pressure. The pressure of millions of people, counting on YOU.
But you’ve felt this pressure before. When they said you should be a wide receiver. You got drafted in the first round as a QB. When they said you were a running back. You went and won a unanimous MVP. When they said you couldn’t win in the playoffs. You silenced those doubters far and wide. Because that’s what you do.
But this letter isn’t about pressure. It’s about trust. Because you’ve already proven everything you’ve needed to to this city. You brought this city its first home AFC Championship in over 50 years. You’ve brought friends and families together like never before. You’ve made us all so so proud. So here’s the message.
We trust you. We have no more questions for you. We just have trust.
So when you run out of that tunnel and hear those screams, know that it’s not pressure, it’s a level of trust from 70,000 - hundreds of thousands - and millions of people across the world.
We trust you to go be great and we’ll have your back the entire time.
To Lamar Jackson, you are our quarterback, our MVP but most importantly our friend.
Good luck #8 - make us proud one more time.
