Jermall Charlo vs. Julian Williams and Robert Easter Jr. vs. Richard Commey set for Fall
boxing-las-vegas-jermell-jermall-charlo_3471036.jpg

The relevant parties in two IBF title fights have come to terms, staving off impending purse bids. According to ESPN, junior middleweight champion Jermall Charlo will make his third defense against mandatory challenger Julian Williams on October 1st, while Robert Easter Jr. and Richard Commey will battle for the vacant lightweight title on September 9th.

Charlo (24-0, 18 KO) thrashed K9 Bundrage last September to earn the belt, then crushed Wilky Campfort two months later for his first successful defense. His most recent fight saw him edge out Austin Trout for a close decision win.

"J-Rock" Williams (22-0-1, 14 KO) thrashed Luciano Cuello in ninety-three seconds last year in his starring turn on Fox Sports 1 before earning his mandatory status with a seventh-round stoppage of Marcello Matano on Showtime. He’s scored knockouts in seven of his last nine fights.

Easter Jr. (17-0, 14 KO) and Commey (24-0, 22 KO) fight for the belt left behind by Rances Barthelemy in the Cuban’s jump to 140. Ghana’s Commey was originally "Kid Blast’s" mandatory challenger, while Easter ran roughshod over Argenis Mendez in his last fight to earn a shot at the vacant title.

Two quality matchups between undefeated fighters; not bad, IBF. Not bad at all.

Too bad Terrence is with HBO; otherwise, it would be a sure plus on my showstreak.

The news on the #LDBC is that if Crawford wins, he fights Pacquiao on November 5th. That's a lot of pressure coming into a major fight. I hope he doesn't take Postol lightly. There's a bad history of fighters losing potential carrier defining fights when they get news like this.

So Roach is using Postol to scout for Pacquiao? That's some cold shit.

Looking forward to this fight though.

Pac is most likely looking for a softball in his last payday. I doubt Postol, Crawford or any of the other top guys are seriously on Pac's radar. If any were a Pac vs Thurman bout would have been scheduled already. Thurman is arguably the top guy at 147, and he's made no secret about how quickly he'd sign on to fight pac..

Arum doesn't promote Thurman.

No way Arum lets Pac pass the torch (so to speak) and become a ppv draw off beating Pac if he doesn't promote them.

Letting him fight Crawford or Postol carries no risk since all are with Top Rank.

Arum doesn't promote Garcia either, but guess who got first dibs at the Pac farewell fight? I forgot about Broner getting a crack at it too.

Other than the Maywether payday when was the last time Pacquiao fought a young quality opponent in his natural weight class who in his prime and wasn't coming off a loss?

Pac's last fight was his farewell fight lol, or are you referring to that? Because Garcia was under Top Rank and trying to get out so maybe they were using that to try and get him back

Broner was a low risk, easy sell fight.

Danny Garcia, not Mikey.

ohhhhhh, my bad

But even so Danny has power but is slow/flat footed and has been getting exposed by lesser fighters than Pac ( Peterson and Herrera both beat him) so again the risk vs. reward works in Arums favor

I get your point They want in-house fighter for Pacquiaos and to be honest there really is none. I mean I've heard the rumors about Canelo the the weight class would be a factor there.

Not even so much the "in house thing," I just think Pac is looking for an easy payday. If it were all in house like some others are suggesting Broner's, and Garcia's name wouldn't have ever been mentioned by Arum.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised to hear Khan's name get brought up in the near future.

I think a fight that they did consider was Provodnikov because he wanted to fight Manny when he was with Roach but then he left to go with Timothy Bradley's old trainer.

Look at my first post on the page. I said Pac is looking for a "softball" hence Garcia and Broner.

He's an idiot because the Kell Brook fight has been there for years and it would have been a big fight in the UK and the winner could have gotten Mayweather but he stalled his own career trying to get a fight with Pacquiao or Floyd.

no doubt but he knows Kell was high risk and not a big enough name to recover with little damage if you lose.

You can lose to Canelo, Pac, or Mayweather and still be good but lose to Kell and your marketability takes a hit

Before I go any further I need to address these bitches.

They say Pacquiao needed to come back becuse there are no big names but this is the SAME show that said they wanted Floyd to retire.

They also indirectly shit all over PBC.

ESPN (especially Rafael) has been doing that *a lot*. I don't fully understand the logic behind ESPN promoting, and hosting PBC fights, yet bashing them under their breath.
