when OG Flash mentioned the ring, I was hoping for a little more...

It was cool

the ENTIRE crossover was FLOODED with Easter eggs

which is good for replay value

and also DC/WB notoriously f*cked up a potential suicide squad series...

hopefully the fan interest and positive response will PERHAPS allow them to do Jon Stewart TIGHT on CW

Thwy have brought some characters to life that I (and ANY DC Comics fan)would NEVER have thought possible with success

Grod Captain Cold Heat Wave Huntress Batwoman Supergirl Constintine Tobias Whale and the list goes on

rela talk who in the HELL would have thought they would pull off ELONGATED MAN as well as they did.

i was hoping we'd see some of it in elseworlds but we should see it next year. off topic: why did batwoman look stupid af?

I heard the came complaint a few times

but I use to be a die hard DC comics fan...

and I wonder how many people REALLY even know anything about Batwoman like that?

She looked ok in the suit in fact MORE than OK to me

She looked just like the comic book

the actress was a bit stiff and I understand she really didn't light up the screen but I see what they were doing and it was fine. From what I saw?

I want to see more.

Love Is __ Canceled After Domestic Abuse Lawsuit Filed Against Co-creator
By Maria Elena Fernandez

OWN is canceling its plans for a second season of the romantic drama Love Is __, weeks after series co-creator Salim Akil was accused of domestic abuse and copyright infringement by a woman claiming to be his former mistress.

Last month, actor Amber Dixon Brenner filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court alleging physical abuse during her decadelong affair with Akil, and also accused him of using one of her 2015 screenplays as the basis for Love Is __, which he co-created with his wife, Mara Brock Akil. In light of those allegations, Warner Bros. Television opened an investigation of the OWN drama — as well as the other series that Akil oversees, the CW’s Black Lightning — but has found no evidence of abuse or assault on either series. Sources close to Black Lightning tell Vulture that production on the second season has not been affected by Brenner’s suit, and Akil will remain as showrunner for the CW series.

While there never were allegations of misconduct by Akil on either set, and none were found as a result of the WBTV inquiries, OWN nevertheless opted to cancel Love Is__, which it had previously renewed for a second season. “OWN has decided not to move forward with the second season of Love Is __,” the network said in a statement. “The TV memoir was inspired by the real-life love story of producers Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil.”

The Akils have been married since 1999 and have produced several hit shows together, including Girlfriends and The Game.

very very nicely done.

I don't know if I can watch this show anymore. 95% of it is cool and the chicks are nice to look at, especially Thunder (but I wish she had a suit more like her original one instead of one with all the armor plates).

But there are some lines of dialog that makes me cringe and wonder how a Black man could either write or allow them to be included on a network show. Tobias is constantly talking about "big lips" and "nappy hair" as well as calling out "lazy negroes." That kind of shit is so destructive I don't even know what to say. But then there was this, again from Tobias - "thick-lipped, incompetent darkies." Man, I just stared at the screen. I lost the whole plot I was so shocked. That is unacceptable and I wrote several emails to the station and Akil. Not only is it lazy writing, it's the worst type of insults black people can say to other black people and especially when in front of a white audience.

He SUPPOSED to talk like that.

He is a self hating black man

He DESPISES Black people because he feels as a child he was bullied beaten and abused because he was an Albino.

He couldn't fit in ANYWHERE

White people mistreated him and Black people mistreated him.

He hates white folk too...

but because he feels BETRAYED by his "own" he harbors an even DEEPER resentment

he is confused sensitive has PTSD and huge identity issues

And yes I agree...the language is HARSH

but I feel like there is context here.

And so far its uncomfortable but revealing...

we got many like him the same complexion as you and I who don't SAY those words but sure do ACT on those same sentiments.

Oh, I understand his background and motivation, but how many others do? How many simply hear the expressions that have plagued us over the years as expressions of our inferiority?

I get his issues but there are plenty of other ways he could express himself without those racist expressions. Because that's what they are.

You make a VERY valid point

but I don't writers to dumb down sh*t either.

it is SUPPOSED to raise discussion and analysis...

and why deprive YOU and I of that just because OTHERS can't grasp it or just don't WANT to.

I'm going to assume if you watching Black Lightening..

you coming in with a something CW/WB shows are FULL of LGBTQ issues, equality issues etc etc

so its a progressive liberal educated audience

OVERALL

and those words ARE racist and hurtful.

But we have shows we all consider CLASSIC that had similar questionable content.

Well, first of all, I don't think racist and more importantly, disunifying dialog on a show that's watched by a lot of impressionable young people is a good idea. I don't think anything that works to divide us is a good idea.

I'm not so naive to think these things don't happen because I hear them every day on the subway and the street. But my point is we need unity now more than ever and these incidences, as benign or minor as they may seem, are the foundation of the scheme to keep us at each other's throats.

As I said, there are other ways to convey his fucked up mental process without perpetuating the worst black stereotypes by blacks to blacks. That makes it exponentially worse.

I don't watch any shows on that network and I only watch BL once I d/l it so I don't know about the demographics. However, no matter how progressive, liberal and educated the audience, if even one hick out in Indiana says- "yup, that's just how them n***** are," that's one too many. And if one black person thinks that kind of exchange is okay with another black person then that's condition red as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not sure which classic shows had content that were so overtly racist, surely some did, but seeing a black man speak like that about other black people ON TELEVISION hurts my heart.

that was so well thought out?

I really got nothing.

Cause I COMPLETELY agree with you.

All I can say is I understand a "black" show has extra added responsibility to its audience as opposed to its counterparts.

But I feel like it shouldn't be a BURDEN.

If we gonna hold BL to that standard?

The Wire didn't depict us at our best, Tony Soprano and Vic Makey were racist misogynist sociopaths, most sci fi shows women are treated like sexual cannon fodder...

I hear you and your NOT wrong.

I honestly have no response that covers it accurately...

@fonzerrillii @ansatsusha_gouki

I need your help on this one.

Here we are, discussing the show like level-headed, intelligent adults; able to discern the truth from the TV show. I think my main point (and objection) is that the majority of viewers can't, or won't take the time, to do the same.

It's not about BL being held to a certain standard or having a burden to depict blacks in a more positive way, although it certainly should, it should be done because it's the correct thing to do. The Sopranos (which I stopped watching after 3 seasons) and The Wire, were not fantasies/comic book programs. They were depicting real-life drama and yes, in The Wire especially, we didn't treat each other well at all. But that's the world we live in. I don't live in B-More but I do live in NYC and it wasn't much different. But BL is fantasyland and so IMO the burden is to present a better vision of black people because the one thing they are not doing is depicting real-life. Not to do so, to trot out the same old stereotypical cliches is not only lazy writing, but detrimental to black people in general. There are tons of villains. How many of them are running around calling black people nappy-headed? And black ones at that. And on that note, what purpose does that even serve? You have to do a deep-dive to realize why he would say some shit like that. And again, how many will?

I've watched a few episodes of those other comic shows and they all have black people in them and nowhere else are black people being called darkies. Shit is just wrong bro and I'm surprised a black man as producer etc would sign off on it.

I guess everybody does have their price.

I hate that now EVERY time he goes into one of his "blackie" screeds my skin crawls.

but I still submit

it is SUPPOSED TO.

Okay. WHY does it make your skin crawl? Is it because of the pain the character must be in because of his past? Or is it because you hate to see a black man talk that way to another black man?

Both.

I hate that bastard and i see IN him so many self hating Black people we have exposed to recently due to social media particularly

As over the top as he is?

I have honestly HEARD the same talk from damn POLITICIANS recently

And the little tiny germs of truth is what really hits you.

There is no right answers here.

Its kinda an accept it or not.

I REALLY hope we get a commeupance

A cathartic release after all these with Tobias

If not?

Then you are 100% right, its just an offensive waste.

We will have to see, but i understand if you aint staying on the ride till then.

And trust the way this show f*cked up Lala and the other mortuary chick name escapes me right now...

They far from perfect.

Fingers crossed.
