When Black Lightning returns for season 3 next month, it’ll be time for the Pierce sisters to step up.

The CW just debuted an extended trailer for the new season that reveals both Jefferson Pierce, a.k.a. Black Lightning (Cress Williams), and his wife, Lynn (Christine Adams), getting put into involuntary “protective custody” by Agent Odell (Bill Duke) as the Markovian war heats up. With Freeland’s first line of defense being held against his will by the government, it will mean Anissa, a.k.a. Thunder (Nafessa Williams), and Jennifer, a.k.a. Lightning (China Anne McClain), are getting promotions as the city’s new main superheroes.

After two seasons of watching Jefferson’s daughters develop and hone their metahuman powers, this new trailer gives fans the best kind of payoff as the two women are shown working together and kicking major ass to fill the void left by their father in protecting Freeland, as the city wonders, “Where’s Black Lightning?” And as the burgeoning metahuman conflict with the Eastern European nation of Markovia threatens not only Freeland but also the world, the need for more heroes has never been higher.

“The family is probably the most disjointed we’ve ever had it,” series star Cress Williams previously told EW. “It’s the whole Markovian conflict. It’s pulled everyone in different directions because they’ve gotten a little bit divided, in the sense there are just different focuses that they have and different motivations that they have. We’re filming, I think, episode 4 right now, and [for] a lot of the family members it’s like, ‘Oh, here’s our first scene together,’ because just where the drama has taken us has really spread us out.”

As if that weren’t enough for Anissa and Jennifer to deal with while their parents are out of commission, Tobias Whale (Marvin “Krondon” Jones III) is also seen in the footage, locked up (potentially in the same government hole as Jefferson and Lynn), vowing to escape and kill everyone Black Lightning loves. Check out the new trailer above.

Black Lighting season 3 premieres Monday, Oct. 7, on the CW.

Kudos to this show for taking the immigrant situation going on right now and putting a black face on it.

Braxton from The Jamie Foxx Show is a bad ass now I see.

As expected, the shit going on in Freeland is rotten all the way to the top with POTUS.

Last, but not least: That ass on Thunder/Blackbird!!!!!!!

Glad they upgraded his suit. He was rocking all black Penny Hardaway's in the first season. Makes sense with the rubber soles and him conducting electricity but he was out there like Keaton Batman rocking Jordans.

Wayne Brady joins Black Lightning in recurring role as Gravedigger

Black Lightning season 3 is starting to heat up, and the addition of a new character should make it even more explosive. The CW announced Thursday that Wayne Brady is joining the show in a recurring role this season as the DC Comics character Gravedigger.

In this incarnation, Gravedigger’s real name is Tyson Sykes, and he’s a World War II veteran of the U.S. military who became a super-soldier after undergoing a secret experiment. This experiment gifted Tyson with enhanced strength and agility, tactical genius, and hand-to-hand combat expertise. Presumably it also gave him an increased lifes pan if he’s survived from World War II to the present in reasonable condition, but Black Lightning is no stranger to long lives. Maybe Tyson uses a similar kind of longevity serum as Tobias Whale (Marvin Jones III), who has fought Black Lightning (Cress Williams) with the same outward appearance he had killing the superhero’s father decades earlier.

But there’s an even bigger spin on Black Lightning’s version of Gravedigger: After fighting in World War II, Spikes defected to the country of Markovia rather than return to segregated America. His apparent goal has been to found a sovereign nation for metahumans within Markovia — a fascinating parallel to Marvel’s recent House of X and Powers of X comics, where the X-Men founded their own sovereign nation for mutants on the island of Krakoa. Gravedigger’s plan will put him on a collision course with the ASA — which has practically established martial law in the metahuman-filled city of Freeland as of the season 3 premiere — and Black Lightning himself.

Brady’s first episode of Black Lightning will likely air in early 2020.

Good stuff!! When I watched it, the CW logo was moved dead center with her cuff and they had a Nancy Drew logo at the top. Thank Zod for BGOL. [
