I don't think it was Tata's fault for Barcelona under-performing, except for that game against Real Sociedad. Seems like an easy scapegoat to me.

2nd consecutive draw for Madrid today.

If Barca win their next two games, they'll win La Liga.

Valladolid haven't lost at home since December and Elche(Barca's next oppponent) are unbeaten in their last 9 home games. In those 9 games they've only given up 2 goals.

Now di Maria is going to miss the final against Atletico in addition to Xabi. Not to mention Cristiano leaving the game today in the 8th minute. Pepe is injured as well.

It looks like he's going to miss the World Cup as well(di Maria). That's a major blow to Argentina.

ahhh shit...it goes down to the last game. Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona. If Atletico Madrid win or draw they win La Liga. If Barcelona win, they win La Liga.

Atletico would have won La Liga if Willy Caballero had not made this last minute save.

The genius that is the coach of Argentina chooses Romero(who's a backup at Monaco) over Caballero.

Lol what??

You know darn well I will not be able to participate in said thread, and talk about how Messi hasn't shown in a WC again, how Nigeria should just focus on their U-21 team instead of the big boys, and find opportune times to call out Chelsea fans as Torres scores more goals in the group stage than he did in league.......I mean, he only has to net in 3 right

Well deserved from Atletico.

As far Arsenal, they'll end up winning this in injury time or penalties. :smh:

Stevie Bruce should've pushed right after the half, but opted to bunker in a little too much.

Cristiano got injured in training earlier today.

He still might play the final though.

Diego Costa and Arda Turan got injured today. Both with tears in their eyes when they came off.

:smh:

Manchester United: Louis van Gaal confirmed as new manager

_74838303_vangaal.jpg

Manchester United have confirmed Louis van Gaal as their new manager with Ryan Giggs as his assistant.

The Netherlands national coach has been linked with United since the departure of David Moyes towards the end of last season.

Van Gaal will join United after Holland complete their World Cup campaign in Brazil and he has signed a three-year deal.

Dwight Yorke says Manchester United fans can get excited again after Louis van Gaal's appointment as manager.

Giggs, who has also decided to end his playing career after 963 games for the club, will be Van Gaal's primary assistant and he is also bringing coaches Frans Hoek and Marcel Bout with him.

Van Gaal told the club's official website: "It was always a wish for me to work in the Premier League.

"To work as a manager for Manchester United, the biggest club in the world, makes me very proud!

"I have managed in games at Old Trafford before and know what an incredible arena Old Trafford is and how passionate and knowledgeable the fans are.

"This club has big ambitions; I too have big ambitions. Together I'm sure we will make history."

Giggs is looking forward to working under another manager with the experience Van Gaal will bring to the club, having spent so many years as a player under Sir Alex Ferguson.

He said: "I am thrilled to have the chance to serve as assistant manager. Louis van Gaal is a world-class coach and I know I will learn a lot about coaching from being able to observe and contribute at such close quarters.

Louis Van Gaal has been appointed as manager of Manchester Utd with Ryan Giggs accepting the role of assistant coach.

"Manchester United has been a huge part of my life and I'm delighted to be able to continue that relationship in such a key role."

Chief executive Ed Woodward added: "In Louis van Gaal, we have secured the services of one of the outstanding managers in the game today.

"He has achieved many things in his career to date and Old Trafford provides him with a fitting stage on which to write new chapters in the Manchester United story.

"Everyone is very excited about this new phase in the club's history. His track record of success in winning leagues and cups across Europe throughout his career makes him the perfect choice for us.

Peter Schmeichel says Louis van Gaal's age and experience makes him a good fit for Manchester United.

"People know him as a larger than life character but I have also been extremely impressed by his intelligence, thoughtful approach to the role and his diligence. I'm looking forward to working with him."

On Giggs, Woodward added: "I'm delighted that Louis has chosen Ryan as his assistant. Ryan's association with the club spans over two decades and his knowledge and stature will be of great use to Louis.

"In addition, this is a fantastic opportunity for Ryan to learn his trade alongside a world-class manager whose attacking instincts and belief in youth are tailor-made for Manchester United."

And Joel Glazer of the club's owners, the Glazer family, said: "I am delighted that Louis will be our next manager.

"He has an outstanding pedigree as a coach, both as a man who motivates his teams to win trophies and as someone who believes in giving young players a chance to prove their worth.

"I am sure he will make a big impression on the club, the players and the fans."

Barcelona name Luis Enrique as new boss after Gerardo Martino's exit

Barcelona have named former player Luis Enrique as their new manager on a two-year contract.

Gerardo Martino parted company with the Catalan club at the end of a season that saw Barca miss out to Atletico Madrid for the Primera Liga title after they drew with them on the final day of the season.

Enrique left Celta Vigo after guiding them to a ninth-place finish in the Spanish league this season and has now been given the opportunity to impress on a bigger stage.

"The FC Barcelona board of directors have confirmed Luis Enrique Martineza as the new first-team coach, following a proposal from sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta," the club said in a statement on their official website.

"Luis Enrique, 44, will sign a two-year deal."

Enrique played for Barcelona from 1996-2004, moving to the Nou Camp following a five-year spell at rivals Real Madrid.

He cut his teeth in management with Barcelona B, before moving on to Roma and then Celta.

Yaya Toure: Manchester City midfielder fuels exit talk

Yaya Toure has fuelled talk of a possible departure from Manchester City by saying he does not know who he will be playing for next season.

The midfielder's agent, Dimitri Seluk, indicated he could leave because he felt he had been treated with a lack of respect by the club's owners.

Asked if he could be playing for another club, he replied: "Yes. We never know in football. We never know."

In an interview with global broadcaster beIN SPORTS, given on Monday before Seluk's comments had reached the public, the Ivory Coast star added: "Because of the brilliant season Man City have had, everybody is talking about me and everything is open.

"My agent, Dimitri, is always on the phone and he knows what he has to do because I trust him a lot.

"We don't know tomorrow, but my focus is on the World Cup and at the end of the World Cup we will see what happens."

Manchester City are understood to be relaxed about the situation and have no intention of selling or even listening to offers for a player who still has three years left on a contract he signed in April 2013.

There was no sense among those present in Abu Dhabi when the squad met Sheikh Mansour that Toure was upset, and he is believed to have exchanged handshakes with Mansour and City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak.

However, his future was thrown into doubt when his agent claimed that City's owners showed him a lack of respect on his 31st birthday on 13 May.

Seluk told BBC Sport that Toure was "very upset" and could leave City.

Toure initially played down the row on Twitter, writing: "Don't take words that do not come from my mouth seriously."

But he then posted a message that read: "Everything Dimitri said is true. He speaks for me. I will explain after the World Cup."

Toure has been an influential player for City since he joined the club from Barcelona in 2010.

His goals and leadership helped the club win the League Cup and Premier League title this season.

But he has often said he would like to a return to the Nou Camp.

"Yeah, I have said that in front of the camera before and I have said that to newspapers about ending my career there," he said.

"But we don't know because football is moving fast and you never know about tomorrow."

The Ivory Coast are one of 32 teams competing in the World Cup and have been drawn in group C alongside Colombia, Greece and Japan.
