Props to Madrid, they were the best team throughout the competition.

In another football thread I'm in, a bunch of people are ripping on Cristiano.

Saw that about Fabs, you think they should let him go?

Kun would be nice but they need to stop signing guys for the front 3rd. They keep players (Villa, Fabs) and they don't even get much playing time. Either let Nemar, Alexis, and/or Pedro be your main guys or make these signings and sell them.

Only if they can suitably replace him. He tends to taper off in the second half of the season. It sucks getting rid of a player who is Catalan and came from La Masia. He was in the same group of players with Messi and Pique.

Rakitic or Koke would be ideal replacements though.

Has there been ANY talks of center backs? We got a keeper which was needed but this back line needs help.......AND someone to replace Dani if he actually ends up at PSG would be nice too

David Villa expected to join him as well

can the MLS get players that aren't near the end of their career to come over? (rhetorical question)

Doubt it very much. The quality of the football doesn't encouraged players to come to the MLS in their prime of their football careers.

Yup. The best football is in Europe and probably will be for a very long time.

Until MLS gets with the rest of the world in terms of:

1) true ownership + slashing salary caps

2) promotion & relegation

... we'll be well behind the race.

Now if we get those things in order ASAP, then I believe that will be the start of seeing actual homegrown players and young thriving talent playing in the league.

Real investment in MLS academies too. They gotta develop kids who can play at an early age. Signing guys from college is too little too late. Kids who show any kind of potential to play at the next level need to be sent to an MLS academy within their region.

Agreed. High School & College ball are the feeders that MLS are living off of currently. It's nice, but it almost never translates to real success.

DC United have one of the better academies in MLS, having churned out a few top level players who have gone onto international success, but it still lags behind as a whole (league wide).

A lot of MLS's problems are based on the way US Soccer's hierarchy is setup. Klinsmann has stated this before, in that everything they do is backwards, but that's a whole another story entirely.

would promotion/relegation actually make a difference though? for that to happen you would have to have a secondary league and mls is already trying to grow as it is, that 2nd league would make little to no money. i don't mind the divisions and playoff that they have now.....just need to cut the number of clubs down. way too many and they keep adding.

Barca expected to seal Rakitic signing - http://www.espnfc.com/story/1864860/barcelona-expected-to-seal-ivan-rakitic-signing-from-sevilla

I hope this is true as well:

Barcelona reportedly reach verbal agreement with Marco Reus - http://www.insidespanishfootball.co...tedly-reach-verbal-agreement-with-marco-reus/

i'm really starting the question what is going on with this club. are they just ignoring the fact that the back was a major issue that needs to be addressed? and then they make these signings which just ends up with them getting little to no playing time. and end up selling them.

I read there's an agreement with Marquinhos, who knows if that's true though.

I was also reading that Pedro is included in the purchase of Reus.

The Reus and Marquinhos rumors are from Mundo Deportivo, which is a newspaper/online publication that is heavily slanted in favor of Barca. Like Marca is heavily slanted in favor of Madrid.

rumors are fine and all but until there is ink to paper on a defender or 2, i will continue being unhappy about this summer. because if it passes and it wasn't addressed they might as well have taken the transfer ban because going forward means nothing if teams will just sit back and hit on the counter or aerial knowing they can succeed.

I believe that it would, but the only hurdle is that at it's core, the idea doesn't cater to the Hollywood ways of the American Sporting public. In other words, "it aint big enough..."

Think about it though, there's no punishment for finishing dead last in the division, nor is there any incentive for winning a championship. There's no reason, asides from a trophy, to do much else.

With promotion/relegation, in conjunction with the USL and NASL, there are plenty of chances for smaller clubs to come up, and bigger clubs to go down, which makes the stakes that much greater.

In addition to the CONCACAF Champions League, we could also have our own version of the FA Cup. A tournaments where dreams are made and underdogs take on giants.

Now again, I go back to my original point of it "not being big enough..." That's the biggest risk you run with the American sporting market.

Let's face it, nobody will want to see the NY Redbulls playing at a 3,000 seat high school stadium... and while that's still the incentive to not go down, or get out ASAP, you run the risk of losing viewership, which is something MLS would have to figure out how to combat, should they take this route.

But bottom-line, I think it would help the game, which should be the biggest selling point right now.... improvment.

Spent $1million on a DP, and you're running the risk of the drop?

Just bought Kaka or Eto'o, and don't want to see them playing at a mini stadium with American football lines?

Don't drop.

Americans don't like soccer because they have short attention span.

A minute without a burst of excitement put them to sleep.

I am surprise the MLS is still around.

I get what you're saying DJC but the thing for me....if it's going to work the 2 separate leagues will have to be really small. I'm talking maybe 10 in each. Because like you said, if you have teams that are playing in front of 3000 ppl, you're probably losing money just to running the second division.

Now if it's 20 teams between the two, each team could maintain a pretty decent fan base and for the start I think both will be very competitive.

But the main issue will be, we all know US "fans" are fickle....so if you have a lesser division and teams that are stuck down there with little sight of getting promoted, will the fans stay? Not only are you trying to build the interest in the sport but also get some form of fan loyalty to a weak side.

I don't get it why United are trying to get Thomas Vermaelen.
IMO Virgil van Dijk is a better bet, younger and cheaper (only at this moment). :smh:

£12m for his Premier League experience, and his versatility to play central and left back are probably the selling points. That 3-4-3 and 3-5-2 are gonna call for it.

The short term fix is priority on Van Gaal'a list it seems.
