Really? There were two injuries in injury time delaying the clock. Dean had it right.

Louis van Gaal concedes that he needs to find ‘better players’ soon

Louis van Gaal admitted Manchester United needed to bring in “better players” as he reflected on a miserable start to his reign as manager and warned the current squad they had to show they could cope with the pressures of playing at Old Trafford.

Van Gaal’s first Premier League match ended in a 2-1 home defeat to Swansea City but the new manager said he had already been aware they needed to go into the transfer market if they wanted to be realistic challengers for the title. “It is very disappointing for the players, the fans, for me, my staff. When you have preparation time and you win everything [in pre-season] and then lose your first match, that cannot be worse.

“It is not good because we have built up a lot of confidence and it shall be smashed down because of this result. But we have to know it is only one game of many games and you shall not be the champion at this moment, you shall be the champion in May.”

Van Gaal was asked whether the current squad was good enough to aim for the title or whether he needed to bring in more signings. “That is not a question because I knew that before this game. Of course we need defenders. It is also the question if we can play like a team and if we can reach the
level. Today, we didn’t reach that level. When you don’t play like a team, when you miss the chances, it is very difficult because every team shall create chances against us because we are playing with a big space behind us.

“I have said before that because of our wins in the United States and against Valencia the expectation is so high, and I have seen in the first half a lot of players very nervous, making the wrong choices, and that is a pity. These players have to get used to that expectation because this is Manchester United. You have to cope with that pressure. I have said to them in the dressing room: ‘I cannot say you didn’t do your very best, unbelievable work, fantastic mentality, but reaching the level is difficult, not only running but using your brain and then you can play like a team.’ In that, we have failed today.”

Van Gaal said Robin van Persie, short of fitness after a post-World Cup break, could be involved in their game at Sunderland next weekend but David Moyes’s successor clearly wants the club to bring in some much-needed players before the transfer window closes. “I thought that before this match. When we were playing in the United States I saw the same. I know in what positions we need better players but I won’t discuss [how many] with you.”

I highly doubt this, but there are rumours that if Ed Woodward doesn't get the players Van Gaal is asking for, he won't honor his contract.

:smh: This cocksucker Woodward has 12 days to show me what he's worth.:angry:

DAMN YOU RUMORS!

Barca prepare AUDACIOUS bid to beat Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd to Marco Reus after ban

BARCELONA are set to make a sensational move to beat Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United to Marco Reus as they prepare for their transfer ban to come into effect in January.

reus-501514.jpg

The Spanish giants learned today that their appeal against a one-year transfer ban had been rejected by FIFA, although they will be allowed to continue buying players until the current window closes.

And while the Catalan outfit intend to appeal again, this time to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, they are already preparing in case the ban sticks.

Indeed, reports in Spain suggest that Reus is the player Barca are most keen to tie up before the embargo comes into effect.

It is suggested that Barca will agree to meet Dortmund's asking price for Reus and then loan him back to the Bundesliga for a season.

A clause in Reus' contract means he can leave for just £20m next summer and Dortmund may agree to let the 25-year-old go to Barca this summer rather than risk losing him to fierce rivals Bayern Munich in 12 months' time.

However, Barcelona's bid will have to be incredibly compelling for both Dortmund and Reus to agree after it was revealed that the German international turned down a move to Manchester United earlier this summer.

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo responded to speculation that his side could be preparing a move for Reus by saying: "I don't know where the Marco Reus rumour came from. It's a player who, at this time, is impossible to us.

"Look, he had an offer for a lot of money from Manchester United and he has not gone... we will not sign him with a lesser offer."

It now remains to be seen whether United, Liverpool or Arsenal rekindle their interest if it looks like Barcelona's audacious bid shows any signs of coming off.

I am surprise it took Man U so long to push this hard for transfers.

Did they expect to finish higher than 7th with the same set of players? :smh:

I hope my side Liverpool don't get Balotelli, please don't :smh:

To be fair, that same set of players won the league under the proper guidance.

But yea, we need some new blood ASAP.

Except he can actually whoop someone's ass, lol. Same with his assistant el Mono Burgos.

I also thought that Atletico should have scored way more goals, they wasted so many opportunities in the second half.

Looks like Di Maria and Blind are on their way.

Sources: Man Utd near Di Maria deal

i

Manchester United are on the brink of signing Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid, sources in Spain and England have told ESPN, although the final details of the transfer must still be agreed.

The purchase of the Argentine World Cup star would represent a significant coup for United, and likely break their transfer record by a considerable distance.

Real Madrid have agreed to the sale of Di Maria, sources say, but they are still holding out for a fee of close to 70 million euros -- around 56 million pounds. That would be almost 20 million pounds more than the 37.1 million paid to Chelsea for Juan Mata in January.

Sources also said that United have offered Di Maria by far the best wage package of all his suitors, including Paris Saint-Germain.

The French club pulled out of the pursuit two weeks ago, as they couldn't make any prospective deal meet Financial Fair Play requirements. Although Di Maria did want to remain in the Champions League, he has been persuaded of the benefits of a move to Old Trafford.

The winger asked to leave Real in midweek, as it became clear president Florentino Perez wants to sell after bringing in James Rodriguez from Monaco.

There is also confidence that United can sign Daley Blind from Ajax, while manager Louis van Gaal remains in the hunt for another midfielder.

Definitely official now.

Thank you Fideo(Di Maria's nickname)! I wish you the best of luck, even if it's with Manchester United. At the end there he mentions Di Maria's contributions in the Champions League final.

Marcelo wrote something similar on twitter.
