:yes:I loved this episode as a kid. Made my mind wonder about the power. Back when they knew how to entertain and write shit.

See how Picard still held power even those he was like bacteria to this thing? Looked at him as said :hmm: "you're free to go." Just great writing to show how powerful people always keep up image even when they don't have an ounce of power. Someone is always watching.

I always liked the powerful species they just glossed over. Like the one time picard and them fell into a pocket of space and were just like they were under a microscope of some powerful beings. They never brought up those beings again, even though they seemed on the level of this thing and Q.

Excellent post. 5 stars!

Imagine being so heart-stricken with grief, pain, and remorse that you break your moral code not to harm life and annihilate an entire species with a single thought as retribution for the love of a woman. Picard's response as to Starfleet not being fit to be his judge is probably one of the greatest quotes I have ever heard on any show.

I have always wondered if the Q Continuum would hold him accountable for his actions. The Douwd as far as I suspect, exhibit powers on par with the Q and could therefore challenge their influences and stronghold on the universe.

With great power comes great responsibility, but at what point do you use that power to maintain order stability and hold those responsible for their misdeeds and
desire to infract your way of life?

This episode and Data's trial were the height of great writing and directing.
TNG for life. TOS got nothing on this.
Oh, and let's not forget Marritza's confession on DS9. DAMN!!!

If I was a Starfleet captain and he told me that I would have told my crew to pack it up let’s get the fuck out of here before we piss him off. I will put markers around that planet solar system warning others about this alien.

And that is what I like about Picard.
He does not fuck with higher life forms blow for blow but rather uses logic and reason to win the day. He is the perfect representative, statesman, diplomat, and ambassador.
Your solution to tuck tail and run the away is usually his warning to the Federation when he walks away from these encounters.

DAMN! Y'all got me going Trekkie nerd over here when I have a business plan to write.
DAMMNIT!

That's a great point. Often advanced and powerful life forms in the Trek Universe avoid interfering in less evolved species' affairs unless absolutely necessary. A great example is the Classic TOS episode "Errand of Mercy." On the other hand, Some other evolved powerful beings interfere in human affairs, which often leads to their destruction, as seen in the TOS "Who Mourns for Adonis." There may be a lesson here.

Nah, fans know.

Trelane or the Metrons are the most powerful characters in Trek that nobody talks about.
These are hardly discussed because normies are too dependent on dumb action schlock to go back and watch the original series.

Picard was ALWAYS at his best when it came to a question of right and wrong.

In Yesterday's Enterprise he sacrificed the lives of two crews based solely on Guinan's intuition because he believed it was the right thing to do.

In Symbiosis, he let a planet full of drug addicts continue believing that they needed the drugs knowing that if the Brekkians found a way to repair their freighters (necessity is the mother of invention) the cycle would continue.

In this case, Picard telling Kevin that he was free to return to the planet was not a matter of authority or control, it was Picard telling him that we are not in a position to judge.

He could have yelled at him and gave a speech about how unconscionable genocide is knowing that Kevin didn't have the heart to kill again. Instead, he tried to ease Kevin's conscience because he felt it was the right thing to do.

The writers are very careful to always put distance in between powerful characters like this and humanity by the end of the episode (except for Q). This guy was left alone, Nagilum felt he learned everything he could, Trelane was taken away by his parents, the Metrons felt that we still needed to grow for a few thousand years, etc.

Imagine how much knowledge could be obtained if a being like that would talk to us on a regular basis.

Hold on there Tex, Lol!!! Those are very good episodes of TNG. However, the original and best recipe for all Star Trek still is with TOS!!! Personally, I offer TOS Season 3 - Let That be your last battlefield; and Season 3 - The cloud Minders. Nevertheless, to your point and preferences, so much of what we like is tied to the time and era they were created, I believe this is what binds things in our minds as favorites and unforgettable memories. It's always good discussing Trek with another person that appreciates the stories. Live Long and Prosper!!!

As it's been mentioned, you guys TRULY overlook Trelane.

In "The Squire of Gothos" episode from ST:TOS, Trelane was essentially all powerful but he lacked discipline and wisdom in the use of his power.
He was simply a bored child with infinite power but no discipline.
- He beat Kirk.
- He imprisoned The Enterprise.
- He (possibly) created an entire world for his own amusement.
- He was only stopped (temporarily) when his "parents" reigned him in. (Still curious about who/what they are...) :eek2:
- God only knows how much more powerful Trelane would later become years after his encounter with Kirk.

Trelane has been suspected and debated to be a Q.
This is a very popular theory/topic within the fandom that the writers haven't debunked when directly asked. .

I cannot relate to TOS the same way I can to TNG, as that is what I grew up watching and rewatching to the point where I can name ships, episode numbers, precise lines and quotes. I am sure there are episodes from TOS that are wonderfully written and could go head-to-head with TNG, but I am not as familiar with the mythology compared to a fan who grew up in the era.

Season 3 was probably the weakest of TOS, and it still had gems. Of course, it had the "Way to Eden" (Space Hippies), "Spocks Brain," & "The Savage Curtain." Probably three of the worst TOS episodes ever.

I ain't going to like....I was young with this was on but I did watch it sometimes for these reasons

1.Captain was shouting or running to an emergency
2.Beem em on board....I knew it would lead to some action at some point.

I remember when data was fighting his evil side and he started doing all types of crazy shit and the other with him was when they had two data's one to replace the other one and he had to kill him.....

When I was a kid watching reruns I could never get into TOS but Lost in Space was my shit.

One of these days, I’ll get back to re-watching TNG. That made me fall in love with Star Trek but…DS9 and Discovery are my joints.

The Picard series though…classic and has been fun to watch and remember TNG.

Bruh, a few years ago I witnessed a galactic drive-by in space where the opps got caught without their shields.
Those particle energy blasts affected my ship and I was 1.2 parsecs away from the action. Never again.

I stopped watching the newer Star Treks when they went full on stealing content/valor from me. They will steal valor, then put in place some transracial such as Nichelle Nichols or Neil Tyson in place of the real black creator. A petty theft we are accused of, they will go all out to hunt that person down.

They produced questionable content back in the day, about genetically engineering a superior being that wipes out inferior races which is a red flag. The superior race is of course all white. Khan Noonien Singh and Eugenics wars is another coded white supremacist story that Star Trek features.

Based on my experience, being a superior human being, it is the inferior beings that will pack up together to take you out due to some irrational emotional response. I am writing a script shopping it around in Hollywood based on my experience. This is similar to EV or solar, the inferior internal combustion vehicle infrastructure has packed up to thwart its success such as limiting the charging infrastructure, oversizing the battery pack with obscene torque monster motors, and other gimmicks to slow its eventual dominance.

As an inferior being, your existence is threatened due to my presence, so many will attempt to sabotage your progress. You don't have to commit acts of genocide against anybody since the women want hybrid babies with you rather than accepting an inferior being.

Maaan, I still think the whole Worf "discommodation/redemption" storyline should have developed into a series. A whole show of Klingons acting bad! Whorf goes to the home planit and takes over and Kern killing left and right.

He does not need to go around committing genocide, he would develop advanced technology far beyond what mankind has ever seen before. This would make him obscenely wealthy, attracting scores of women. The inferior beings feeling their existence threatened, struggling to survive would try to tax him or put him under constant rudimentary surveillance to steal whatever he develops. The real villain would be James Kirk and Spock, seeing Zoe Saldana and Alice Eves getting mounted to have hybrid offspring, openly showing preference towards him, emasculating them.

This is my side rant on these movies depicting people like me as villains.

Let say I develop an AIDS or cancer cure due to my innate genius, first I would charge an exorbitant amount of money for anybody wanting a shot, let say $1,000,000. What these freeloading bitches will do is try to steal it, use their political power to pressure the government, or tax you. By charging such a high amount, this would cause these bums to struggle financially, this is the genocide that Khan would inflict. It is similar to Russia, knocking out the power grid in Ukraine.

I want to depict these freeloading fools as villains in a movie unwilling to accept their pathetic existence. I talk to a couple of studios they seem interested in my story concept and want to develop it further. The women seeing my opulent lifestyle would favor me, and want hybrid offspring with superior traits.

This is not the case in the U.S., I just put out a few samples and these freeloading bums were all over it like fools. Now they are character attacking to justify their deprave actions and holding me hostage while I live in squalor condition. I have omnipresent surveillance from my government handlers watching probably after shit dried up electronically hoping they can see me write something.
